Christmas at DeSales
|
Following a twelve-year tradition of celebrating the birth of Christ and sharing the Christmas spirit with the Geneva community, each grade at DeSales High School in Geneva adopted a family for the school's Advent Project.
Early in December each grade was given information on a local family, including a "wish list" as well as sizes and ages of the family members. Each teacher and staff member was assigned to one of the grades. Students, teachers and staff began to collect and purchase items for their adopted family. The class officers went shopping at various businesses in the Geneva area on for the items and every homeroom wrapped and labeled the gifts. In addition, the DeSales Student Council raised additional funds to purchase groceries for each family.
On the last day of school, before Christmas break each grade selected a few classmates to help deliver the food and gifts. A teacher or staff member accompanied each group of students. This year, as in the past, the project was directed by Elaine Morgan, Guidance Secretary.
