Businesses of The Month:
The January 2005 Business of The Month is MGB Systems located at 20 east Main Street, Clifton Springs, New York. There is a new Cingular Wireless store in Clifton Springs.
MGB Systems, Inc. is proud to have joined Cingular Wireless as an Authorized Agent. MGB looks forward to bringing the latest wireless and networking technologies to the Finger Lakes area both through Cingular and through our Microsoft computer networking services. With the acquisition of AT&T Wireless, Cingular has the largest digital voice & data network in America. On Friday December 10th, Cingular went live on the cell tower off of route 96 in Clifton Springs, providing 5 bars of reception to the Clifton Springs area. The Cingular wireless store is an addition to MGB's already successful corporate computer software and training business. MGB has an MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) on staff to design, build, and implement a secure Windows network. Making your company network accessible can provide many benefits as well as many security risks. MGB Systems, Inc. can help you to make sure that your data is safe. MGB Systems, Inc. has been in business for 12 years. Michele (Operations Manager) and Greg Baldwin (President) relocated the business and their home to Clifton Springs in 1996. The Baldwin's have enjoyed raising their 2 children, Michael and Charlie in the Clifton Springs community. Over the years MGB has helped businesses in Central and Western NY become more efficient designing and manufacturing products using the latest computer aided design and manufacturing software solutions available. With the introduction of Cingular Wireless and our Microsoft Certifications MGB Systems hopes to provide customers with the most advanced technologies and software available today. The world of technology is in constant motion; the mission at MGB is to bring technologies to the Finger Lakes community in a user friendly and understandable environment. The February 2005 Business of the Month is Nima's Pizza and Sub Shop located at 18 west Main Street in Clifton Springs, New York. Their phone number is (315) 462-9209 with hours of operation from 11 am to 9 pm Monday thru Thursday, 11 am to 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 1 pm to 9 pm on Sundays.
Nimas is owned and operated by Nick and Grace Nima and was opened in Clifton Springs in 1992. There were five other locations at one point in time that have since changed ownership resulting in the sole operation in Clifton Springs. The pizzeria specializes in assorted pizzas and subs. Nimas' motto is that "we try to do our best to please our customers".
Grace was born in Florence Italy and came to the United States in 1969. She earned her Bachelor's degree in foreign languages from Syracuse University and her Masters degree in Spanish and English as a second language from the University of Rochester. Nick was born in Palermo Sicily and came to this Country in 1981. He earned an engineering degree from a college in Palermo. Upon his arrival in the United States he drew upon his entrepreneurship to create a chain of pizza shops in the Finger Lakes region that spanned over 22 years. Today Nick and Grace live in Canandaigua and they have three children, Stephanie, Max and Alex.
General Membership Meeting: The next membership meeting is scheduled for January 18, 2004 at Ashton Place Retirement Community in Clifton Springs at 5:30 p.m. Mike Fullerton from MFDESIGNWORKS will present a program on the benefits of online assistance to businesses through web access. The Chamber will even assist businesses in the creation of an online presence. Business training programs offered through the Finger Lakes Community College and services of the Finger Lakes Works Program are available to Chamber members. By-laws: The following revisions to the Chamber's by-laws will be presented for approval at the January 18, 2005 membership meeting:
The following changes to the Chamber by-laws were approved as follows:
IV. 2. The Nominating Committee would be comprised of at least three members of the general membership that may include board members with the Chairperson appointed by the Chamber Board President.
VI. 2. The secretary will send members a written notice of the time and place of any meeting at least ten (10) days prior to the meeting date.
VI. 3. Action items will be approved by a majority of the membership in attendance at meetings.
VII. 3. Changes in the by-laws must be approved by a majority of the votes received or by majority approval of members in attendance at general membership meetings.
New Chamber Members:
Clifton Springs Festival of Lights: The annual Holiday lighting of the Village of Clifton Springs took place on December 3, 2004. It was well attended in spite of the cold weather.
Santa paid a visit for the children. Merchants and restaurants were open later with special events for all to enjoy. The Holiday residential decorating contest winners were as follows:
1st Place: Richard and Louise Jones, 66 East Main St. Clifton Springs ($100)
2nd Place: Robert and Pam Switzer, 28 Hillside Dr. Clifton Springs ($50)
3rd Place: Michael and Stephanie Nurse, 1 Sherman Ave. Clifton Springs ($25)
Mayor's Choice: Ivan and Linda Youngman, 15 Pleasant St. Clifton Springs (Gift Certificates to
Warfields and the Springs of Clifton)
Fund Raising: The Chamber is selling seasonal note cards that depict an artist's drawing of a scene form Clifton Springs. A pack of twelve cards and envelopes are priced at $5.00. The cards are selling well.
