PARENTING A CHILD WITH AN EATING DISORDER: TWO PARENTS SPEAK ABOUT THEIR JOURNEY THROUGH THE PROCESS OF RECOVERY

This educational video is the candid, compassionate and gripping story of Mary Ellen and Dan Clausen, parents of two girls who struggle with eating disorders. Interviewed by Dr. Cris Haltom, Ph.D., and based on their own experiences, the Clausens offer support, empathy and helpful ideas to parents, grandparents, and caretakers of those with eating disorders. Among the issues addressed are: 1) Facing the seriousness of eating disorders, 2) Ways to hold the family up during recovery, 3) Coping with family tensions, 4) Parents learning to take care of themselves in the wake of an eating disorder, 5) Children living away from home while in treatment, and 6) Expenses of treatment. Viewers will learn about how eating disorders can manifest differently in each child, and that most parents not only have similar observations of their children with eating disorders but they have shared similar feelings of frustration, helplessness, worry, and hurt.
Proceeds from this video will go to: Ophelias Place and the Parent Partner Program of Tompkins County, both working for the cause of eating disorder treatment and recovery.
