DeSales High School Making every penny count for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!
|
Students at DeSales High School are making every penny count through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Pennies for Patients program. These students have been collecting pennies, coins and currency to raise money to support the research of leukemia, lymphoma and blood cancers.
During the month of January, students have been encouraged to collect spare change from friends, relatives, neighbors, etc. The overall top fundraising school will win a trip to Six Flags Darien Lake Theme Park for up to 40 students and a computer system for the school. Every school that raises a minimum of $200 will be awarded a pizza party for its top fundraising class. The top fundraising schools are also eligible for other great prizes.
About 30 percent of cancers in children under fourteen are leukemia, according to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. It is estimated that leukemia, lymphoma and blood cancers will strike over 110,960 children and adults in the United States this year alone, and it will take the lives of an additional 55,100.
Funds raised from Pennies for Patients will help support the Society's programs of blood cancer research, local patient aid & services, advocacy, education, and community service. For more information about the Society's programs, call the Western New York & Finger Lakes Chapter at (716) 834-2578, or 1-800-784-2368, or visit www.schoolandyouth.org.
