FINGER LAKES HEALTH AUXILIARIES RECEIVE STATE AWARD
|
The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) recently presented the Auxiliaries of Finger Lakes Health with the 2004 Auxiliary Advocacy Award. This Award recognizes individual Auxiliaries' contributions to their health care facilities and their communities. To qualify, auxiliaries must meet ten specific criteria, including participation in healthcare awareness activities and sponsorship of local advocacy and outreach programs. Statewide, out of 230 health care auxiliaries affiliated with HANYS, only 71 received the Advocacy Award.
Finger Lakes Health Auxiliaries annually raise thousands of dollars for the health system to support acquisition of specialized equipment and meet special requests. In addition to fund raising, the auxiliaries also coordinate gift and snack shops, knit baby hats and lap robes, provide newspapers and periodicals for patients and residents, grant scholarships for students interested in medical careers, and assist the American Red Cross with blood drives. In the community, they staff the health system's two annual community health fairs, promote the W.H.A.L.E. (We Have A Little Emergency) child car seat identification program, coordinate puppet shows for area kindergarten students that help children understand what a visit to the hospital may be like, and raise awareness of the prominent role played by health care facilities in the larger community.
All the Auxiliaries welcome new members to help support the health system. For Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, supporting the hospital and the Homestead in Penn Yan, call Loree MacKerchar at 532-2053. For the Taylor-Brown Auxiliary that supports the Huntington Living Center in Waterloo, contact Debbie Lockett at 787-4949. For the Geneva General Hospital Auxiliary, supporting the hospital and the Living Centers in Geneva, call Jean Harman, 787-4065. By working together, we can help assure excellent health care services for our communities. Call today. You can make a difference.
