"Enchanted Gardens" To Be Theme At GardenScape '05




      ROCHESTER, NY--The GardenScape Professionals Association, a not-for-profit organization and producers of GardenScape, Greater Rochester's Flower & Garden Show, has announced the theme for the 2005 show to be held March 17-20 at the Dome Center in Henrietta, just outside downtown Rochester. "Enchanted Gardens" is the theme for GardenScape '05, which will feature more than 20 'enchanting' gardens, over 80 vendors, and daily seminars by well-known horticultural experts.


      Listed in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal, along side such prestigious shows as the Philadelphia and San Francisco Flower Shows, as one of the best flower shows 'on the east and west coasts, GardenScape '05 will feature the latest in landscape design and gardening. Marking its 14th year as the region's premier flower and garden show, GardenScape '05 is expected draw over 25,000 as the show continues to grow in popularity.
      Headed up by two co-chairs and show manager, Bob Kretzer of Webster, NY executive director of the GardenScape Professionals Association, proceeds from the show benefit the association's many educational and public service efforts.
      "We're fortunate to have some of the brightest and most talented landscapers right here in the Rochester and Finger Lakes region and GardenScape allows us to showcase their incredible talent," says Kretzer, who has been show manager since 1997.
      GardenScape '05 is chaired for the second year by Dave Dailey of Birchrest Tree & Landscape in Webster and co-chaired by Todd Cappiello of Sherwood Landscape and Irrigation of Fairport, NY.
      Daily seminars will be held at GardenScape '05 featuring nationally-known horticultural experts. Headliners include: Thursday-- Cathy Miller, dried flower designer whose work has been featured at the White House, Friday-- Jo Ann Gardner, author, writer, and lecturer will speak on herbs and silver-leaved plants, Saturday-- Lee Reich, gardener, writer, and lecturer will be sharing his knowledge on unusual fruits, and on Sunday, Ken Parker, a Seneca native, focuses on working to restore, preserve and maintain the pre-European plant species indigenous to North America.
     GardenScape '05 will also provide a beautiful backdrop for two 'preview' events, which will enable visitors to view and tour the gardens in a more intimate setting. The preview reception, "A Taste of Spring," to benefit the Epilepsy Foundation, will be held on Wednesday, March 16 starting at 5:30 p.m. Visitors and supporters will have the opportunity to stroll through the gardens and enjoy an hors d'oeuvre reception before the doors open to the public on March 17.       For those garden lovers who would like an up close and personal tour of the gardens before doors open to the general public at 9 a.m., the Early Bird Garden Tour and Continental Breakfast allows guests to view the gardens and talk with landscape professionals and gardening experts. The Early Bird Tour will be held Saturday, March 19 from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Advance sale tickets are $25 and include tour, continental breakfast, and all day admission to GardenScape '05. Midlakes Middle School Students Raise Funds For Tsunami Relief Efforts



     Tom Cheney, son of Peter and Mary Cheney of Phelps NY lead his Midlakes Middle School classmates in a volunteer effort to raise funds for the Tsunami relief efforts. In the picture Tom, his classmates, and advisors are shown presenting a check for $711.94 to Russ Williamson-board member, representing the American Red Cross in the Finger Lakes.
