Poem of the Week
|
AL KAMM
By Ralph Adams
|
The many years that I have known him;
And the tales and experiences I would foresee,
I really did not know who this man was,
Until he pulled me out of the cherry tree,
Many years I was lazy and church I did shirk
Until he pulled me from that tree,
And made me go to church.
This man was young and full of fire,
He grabbed a bunch of kids to form a choir.
He said I could sing, which I was in doubt,
I either was in tune or I was way out.
After many hours and my ribs he would poke,
When I was flat or too sharp, and that's no joke.
But after all these years you can see,
He made a tenor out of my brother and me.
Now there are men like Lincoln, Washington,
And of course certainly Adams,
Who went down in nation's History,
But there is another name quite well renown
To add to the history of our little town,
This man with his beard looks like Uncle Sam,
Yes you guessed it!! It's our Albert Kamm.
Sometimes I go back to my teen hood.
And memories my heart seemed to fill,
But most of all I remember,
That man that brought music to our town,
And was the preacher up on the hill.
Upon earth's mighty easel.
God paints His pictures rare,
He sent this town this wonderful person,
With his music for all of us to share.
Oh yes!!, this heart of this good friend,
Is the one friend I really prize,
He brought music to my world,
And really opened my eyes.
He was always there, when I needed him,
And he would always understand,
He would show me contentment and peace,
With the grasp of his mighty hands.
So many times life hurries on,
And so often we soon forget,
The little blessings God might send,
That mean so much--, and yet!
We fail to appreciate, but just look around,
This precious man with the little white beard.
When he came to our little town.
Today is the time to rejoice and be happy!
The memories in this poem I try to unfold,
To this precious man and very best friend;
Al Kamm who is 89 years old.
God Bless You,
Your friend Ralph
Valentines Day
By Ralph Adams
This is that day and time of year,
That you should think of those who are dear.
Just remember your love to sweetheart or spouse,
Or even to your family, right there in your house.
It doesn't have to be candy or Valentine,
Just a little hug and kiss would be just fine,
Tell them you appreciate the little things they do,
Not just for others, but for the things they do for you.
Just express your love to all those who are near,
And make it expand to everyday in the coming year.
