Charles "Andy" G. Anderson
SENECA FALLS - Mr. Charles 'Andy" G. Anderson, 87, of 26A Stanton Meadows Town Homes, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005 in the Seneca Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Friends called Friday, March 4 at the Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo. Military rites were that evening by members of the Waterloo Memorial Post 6433 V.F.W. and Warner-VanRiper American Legion Post 435.
The funeral was Saturday, March 5 in the funeral home. The Rev. Donald Kennedy, pastor at Lake Country Christian Church, officiated. Spring burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Waterloo Memorial Post 6433, VFW, 29 W. Elisha St., Waterloo, 13165.
Charles was born March 18, 1917, in Waterloo, the son of John A. and Jennie M. Nelson Anderson. He was an Army veteran, having served from 1936 until 1939 separating from the service as a corporal; and then from 1942 until 1945, before retiring as a sergeant. He was a life member of the Waterloo Memorial Post 6433 VFW. He was a self-employed carpenter for many years. Charles was an avid bowler.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, whom he married Aug. 31, 1941, Eva Rose Anderson; four sons, Charles (Catherine) Anderson of Phelps, Gerry (Cindy) Anderson of Waterloo, Ronald Anderson of Waterloo, Robert (Betty) Anderson of Geneva; three daughters, Janet Peisher of Phelps, Carl (Joan) Arno of Waterloo, Rose Wandell of Seneca Falls; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rocco (Evelyn) Church of Ithaca, Charles (May) Williams of Geneva; a special nephew, Gary (Cheryl) Anderson of Oakland Park, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother, George Anderson, and one sister, Jenny Jones.
Charles L. Hefferon Jr.
PHELPS - Charles L. Hefferon Jr., 68, of 2557 Johnson Road, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2005 at his home.
Friends called Wed., March 2 at the DeVaney-Bennett Funeral Home. A funeral service was Thursday, March 3 at the funeral home, with the Rev. Lynn Spence officiating. Burial will be in the Joslyn Cemetery in Phelps at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American leukemia Society, House of John or Clifton Springs Cancer Center.
Charles was born in Clifton Springs, the son of Charles and Vermylia Christopher Hefferon. In 1955, he joined the Army and was stationed overseas in Janu, Germany. He worked at the American Can Company in Geneva, and later was employed at NYSEG as a pipe fitter, where he retired after 27 years. Charles was a rhythm guitar player and vocalist for the County Band "Just Us."
Charles is survived by his wife of 49 years, Evelyn L. Hand Hefferon; a daughter, Michelle (Craig) Ingerick of Phelps; a sister, Clara (Herman) Frahs of Geneva; two grandchildren, Jessica and Chad Ingerick of Phelps; two brothers-in-law, Arlene (Ronald) Bodine of Florida, Vivian (Robert) Russell of Phelps; and several nieces and nephews.
Charles was predeceased by his son, Charles L. Hefferon III; and his sister, Evelyn Clark.
Graydon J. Williams
CLIFTON SPRINGS - Graydon J. Williams, 76, of Mountain Home, Ark., died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Indianapolis.
Graydon's ashes will be interred in Los Osos, Calif.
Graydon was born Aug. 5, 1928, in Hunlock Creek, Pa., the oldest child of David and Merle Williams, who later moved to Hibbard Ave. in Clifton Springs. He graduated in 1946 from Clifton Springs Central School and attended Fredonia State Teachers College for one year before joining the Air Force, where he was assigned to the Air Force Jazz Band. He traveled across Europe for several years playing trumpet and trombone behind Bob Hope and many other stars, who entertained our troops in the era of the Berlin Airlift.
Graydon returned to the United States in 1952 and married Joanne Kniess of Greeley, Colo. The newlyweds moved to Boston, where he studied at the New England Conservatory of Music for six years, earning degrees in jazz musical arranging.
He then served several years on the faculty of the College of the Ozarks in Arkansas before moving to California as Director of Bands at CalPoly, San Luis Obispo. His moonlighting jazz combos did hundreds of performances at weddings, state fairs, nightclubs and dances. He also wrote the musical arrangements for many of the Miss California contestants.
He is survived by two daughters, Donna (Neal) Feaver of Tampa, Fla.; and Evelyn Williams or Morro Bay, Calif.; a son, Donald (Diane) of Los Osos, Calif.; a sister, Pat (Duane) Wakefield of Port Orange, Fla.; two brothers, David Glenn (Ada) of Louisville, Ky. And Gail (Hannah) of Montgomery, Ala., all graduates of Clifton Springs Central School; four grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and a special friend, Shirley Norsen of Mountain Home, Ark. and Clifton Springs.
He was predeceased by is wife, Joanne, and their infant son, Daniel.
