Frederick Clark Jr.
CLIFTON SPRINGS - Frederick Clark Jr., 84, formerly of Cress Road in Phelps, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.
Friends called Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services were Sunday in the United Church of Phelps with the Rev. Lynn Spence officiating. Burial will be in the Spring in Oaklawn Cemetery.
It is suggested that memorial donations be made to the Phelps Volunteer Fire Department, 7 Exchange St., Phelps 14532 or to the Phelps Historical Society, 66 Main St., Phelps 14532.
Fred was born May 13, 1920, the son of Frederick and Inez Lefler Clark Sr. He worked for 43 years for Bero Construction in Waterloo, and was a member of the Rochester Engineering Local 832. Fred was a past member of the Phelps special police force and was the oldest living member of the Phelps Fire Department. He was a past assistant chief and life member of the fire department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and stock car racing.
He is survived by his children, Frederick (Marcia) Clark III of Tewksbury, Mass.; Sandra (Daniel) McIntyre, Donald R. (Jean) Clark, and Bruce D. (Joan) Clark, all of Phelps; Kevin J. Clark of Clifton Springs, Phyllis (Harry) Bailey of Lyons, Gayle (William) McGory of Stanley, and Floyd Clark of Texas; a sister, Charlotte (David) Alexander of Berkshire; a sister-in-law Shirley Casselman of Newark; two brothers-in-law, David (Beverly) Dayton of Port Gibson, Jack (Linda) Dayton of Honeoye; 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by is wife, Doris E. Clark, who died in 2000; four brothers, Gerald, George, Richard and Rollyn Clark; and a sister, Elva Jackson.
Kenneth D. Evans
WATERLOO - Mr. Kenneth D. Evans, 86, formerly of Waterloo and Phelps, died Tuesday, March 8, 2005 in the Seneca Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
In following with his wishes, there were no calling hours. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Christ United Methodist Church, 633 Linwood Ave., Olean 14760.
Ken was born May 26, 1918, in Portville, the son of Harold D. and Myrtle O. Johnson Evans. He was a 1936 graduate of Olean High School.
A World War II Navy veteran, he was a member of the VFW Post 1619 of Olean and played in the VFW Drum Corps. He retired in 1981 from Clark Brothers, now known as Dresser-Rand, in Olean. While living in Olean, he was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church of Olean. He was an avid Yankees fan and in his younger years enjoyed playing baseball and softball. Ken was also an avid bowler
He is survived by one son, Kevin D. Evans and his companion, Lisa Jocius of Hinsdale; two daughters, Kathryn (William K. II) Cross of Wilmington and Karen Griffey of Olean; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Katherine C. Evans; and two brothers, Clifford and Donald Evans.
Grace Helen Hendricksen Larsen
SAVANNAH - Grace Helen Hendricksen Larsen, passed away Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at Champlain Valley Physician Hospital in Plattsburgh.
Calling hours were Friday, March 11 and Saturday, March 12 at the Chateaugay Funeral Home in Chateaugay, in Franklin County, where a funeral began at 2 p.m. Saturday. Burial will follow this spring in Savannah.
Memorial donations can be made to the Alice Hyde Nursing Home.
Grace was born Sept. 24, 1917, in New Denmark, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Hans and Esther Hendricksen, and was married to Jens Peter Larsen. Grace was loved and blessed by her caregiver, Shirley Johnston, who loved her like a mother. In their friendship, Shirley came to know Grace as truly an "Amazing Grace." The family will be forever thankful for Shirley.
She is survived by a son, Robert (Karen) Larsen of Phelps, and a daughter, Rena (Mackenzie) Larsen Watson of Montreal, Quebec, Canada; a brother, Richard Hendricksen of Toronto; and sisters, Rowena Larsen of Toronto, Ontario; and Margaret dean of New Brunswick, Canada. Grandma Grace was loved by her grandchildren, Peter (Lori) Watson, Michael (Kim) Larsen, Bradley (Shauna) Larsen and Tanya Larsen; her great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Katie Watson, Michela and Michael Larsen, Erica and Bradley Larsen Jr.; two foster grandchildren, Sheila and Sandy, and a foster great-grandchild, Corty; and many nieces and nephews.
Grace was predeceased by her husband, and a son, Wayne Larsen; and by four brothers, Wilfred, Philip, Raymond and Michael "Junior"; and two sisters, Bertha and Lois.
Howard B. Smith
JUNIUS - Howard B. Smith, 87, of 1000 Whiskey Hill Road, died Saturday, March 5, 2005 in his home.
There were no calling hours. A memorial service was Thursday, March 10 in the Junius Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Ellen Donnan Carroll, pastor of the church, officiated. Spring burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Junius Presbyterian Church.
Howard was born July 9, 1917, in Geneva, the son of Herbert F. and Hattie E. Smith. He was a 1937 graduate of the Phelps Union and Classical School. He owned and operated his own farm for many years. Howard was an insurance agent for the Finger Lakes Fire and Casualty Co. from 1950 to 1995 and served on the board of directors from 1950 to 1990. He was a member of the Junius Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by cousins.
He was predeceased by his wife, Ruby Fellows Smith, who died May 30, 2002.
