PHIL LOSSIFER

Fred Gifford's article "A Time for Leaving" brought thoughts on interactin' with those noted. Time passes, an' all have an effect on people in their life's years.
The passin' of Pope John Paul II evokes many memories. People's outpourin' throughout the world is amazin', watchin' television broadcasts goin' fer hours. Permit me, if you will, to state what his papacy meant t' me. When y' hear people's comments on his life things become more focused.
Pope John Paul's papacy came into bein' when people were lookin' fer moral leadership from somewhere. Our world was turned upside down, with violence an' attitude "changes." He din't change his message t' satisfy critics, he stated centuries old Biblical standards, givin' direction to life. He used Jesus' direction to teach all nations about God, usin' twentieth century techniques to deliver His message. He never strayed from basic tenets of religion, nor willingness t' look world leaders in the eye an' tell them where the bear sat in the buckwheat. It's m' opine God sends someone t' lead when it's desperately needed. John Paul's accomplishments indicate a message was bein' sent. His opposition to Communism was a result of personal interaction with dictatorial regimes. As an afterthought, Hitler asked how many divisions the existin' Pope had, an' like many dictators found God had an underground system in place, waitin'!
There's those who'll say he din't address problems of the world. But the problems most wished addressed were not Biblical in nature, but moral changes people, note the word, wished. Celibacy requirements produced the priest scandal. Although other faiths' clergy have similar problems. They, in effect, deny immense effect sexual desires have on people, an' lack of discipline to conquer it. The unchangin' stand on birth control was more a moral discipline standpoint than creation. T'day it's part of our culture, fortunately, because it prevents consequences in developed counties seen in countries like Africa. His abortion opposition was morally against a form of murder, but Nature's laws require life t' be viable, an' at conception it ain't! Condemnation of homosexuality is a two-fold nature's rule, since creation sustains life an' prevents uncommon diseases which can an' have become epidemics in the world.
Wherever the Pope went, he looked for children, bein' said a baby he was holdin' prevented the shooters' aim. The most important facet of his tenure was recognizin' children are our future, an' that's where he devoted his life for the common man.
His moral direction is wanted by masses, needed, although often ignored. He's been on the center stage of life, sent God's message, an' has now exited stage left for the world's sorrow. His immense legacy was exhibited by the thousands who journeyed t' Rome. Thank y'Lord, fer sendin' him t' our earth. We need another jes like him. 'Nuff sed.
