FINGER LAKES VISITING NURSE SERVICE PAYS TRIBUTE TO THEIR NURSES
|
National Nurses Week is celebrated annually from May 6, also known as National Nurses Day, through May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing.
There are an estimated 2.7 million Registered Nurses (RN's) in the United States. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services reports that the U.S. currently has a nurse shortage of nearly 150,000 RNs and will have a shortage of more than 800,000 by the year 2020. The purpose of National Nurses Week is to remind the public of the critical role that nurses play and the important work they do for our community.
Finger Lakes Visiting Nurse Service employs 37 full-time and 56 part-time nurses. The nurses oversee the recovery of their patients in the comfort of the patient's own home. In this environment, nurses enjoy one-to-one patient case management, the independence of flexible scheduling, and professional growth. Dedication to their patients takes FLVNS nurse an average of 104,000 miles per year in Wayne, Ontario, Yates and Seneca counties. That equals about 40 trips from Geneva to Los Angeles, California or 346 tanks of gas per year. Finger Lakes Visiting Nurse Service has an incredible pool of talented and dedicated nurses. On average FLVNS cares for approximately 550 patients per month and ninety-eight percent of patients surveyed say they would recommend us to family or friends.
Our nurses do an excellent job helping to keep patients comfortably in their home. Next time you see one of our nurses thank them for making a difference in the community. For more information about FLVNS contact Margaret Wiant, Director of Community Relations 315-789-9821, ext. 3077.
