FLCC TO LEASE FORMER GENEVA MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR EXTENSION CENTER

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (April 12, 2005)-Last night the Finger Lakes Community College Board of Trustees authorized the College to enter into an agreement with the Geneva City School District. The College will lease the former Geneva Middle School at 63 Pulteney St. from the District as a new site for the Geneva Extension Center.
"Simply put, we've outgrown our current Geneva facility," said Dr. Daniel T. Hayes, FLCC president. "The middle school will better serve our current instructional needs and will afford us the opportunity to expand our course offerings in Geneva. We are grateful that the District is giving us this opportunity."
Since 1984, the Geneva Extension Center has been located at 361 Main St., offering approximately 17,000 square feet of usable space. The five-year lease of the Pulteney St. site will provide approximately 40,000 square feet of usable space on the first floor alone and approximately 103,000 square feet of usable space in total. With a cost to the College of $231,000 for the first year, the lease will take effect Aug. 1, 2005.
Currently, the Geneva Extension Center offers primarily introductory courses for most academic programs. Approximately 400 students, including full- and part-time as well as traditional and non-traditional-aged students, take courses at that location.
"Our Board of Trustees believes that the middle school location will broaden opportunities available to FLCC students, especially for those who reside in or near Geneva," said Robert Belmont, chair of the FLCC Board of Trustees.
Initially, the College plans to use the first floor for classrooms, office space, computer labs, an academic support center, and student lounge space. The College's emergency medical services training program, currently housed in the Canandaigua VA Medical Center, will also move to the new space. Eventually, the College could expand into the upper floors of the building, pending development of additional programming.
Future site plans may include offering non-credit courses in professional education, workforce training, and cultural enrichment through the Division of Professional Studies and Continuing Education as well as other credit offerings.

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (April 14, 2005) - The Finger Lakes Chorale of Finger Lakes Community College will offer two concerts this spring. Under the direction of Dennis Maxfield, the group will perform Charles Gounod's "Messe Solennelle en l'Honneur de Sainte Cecile." The concerts will take place Friday, April 29, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, May 1, at 3 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 183 N. Main St., Canandaigua.

Prior to the Chorale's performances, the Finger Lakes Camerata, a community choral group dedicated to promoting choral chamber music, will perform four pieces: Morten Lauridsen's "Dirait-on"; "Beggars' Canon" and "Neighbors' Chorus," both by Jacques Offenbach; and Gabriel Faure's "Cantique de Jean Racine."
