Mildred K. Holcomb
Beloved mother and grandmother
CANANDAIGUA - Mildred K. Holcomb. 95, of County Road 32, died Thursday, April 21, 2005 at Ontario County Health Facility in Hopewell.
There were no calling hours. A memorial service to celebrate her life was Sunday, April 24 at the First Congregational Church, 58 N. Main St. in Canandaigua. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Bristol.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church or to Wood Library, 134 N. Main St., Canandaigua 14424.
Mrs. Holcomb was born Jan. 13, 1910, in Canandaigua, the daughter of Peter and Carolyn Aberle Killian. She attended schools in Bloomfield and graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1928. She graduated from the Genesee School of Nursing in 1933. She married Kenneth M. Holcomb Aug. 22, 1933, in Bristol. Mrs. Holcomb worked as a registered nurse at area hospitals and also did private duty. She also assisted her husband in operating their farm on County Road 32 in Canandaigua. She volunteered more than 4,000 hours at Thompson Hospital. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Order of the Eastern Star and Centerfield Homemakers. Mrs. Holcomb enjoyed gardening and spent countless hours tending to her rose garden. She loved spending time with her family and friends.
Mrs. Holcomb is survived by two sons, Norman (Judy) Holcomb of Canandaigua and Peter (Diane) Holcomb of Florida; two daughters, Joyce (Richard) VanOpdorp of Clifton Springs and Judy (Michael) Carson of Canandaigua; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; sister-in-law, Lillian Carver of Bloomfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth M. Holcomb, in 1987 and her infant daughter, Audrey.
