MIDLAKES GRADUATE JOINS U.S. NAVY

Dawn A. Atkinson, 1989 graduate of Midlakes High School and daughter of Pat and Bev O'Brien of Phelps, has enlisted in the U.S. Navy. She will leave for boot camp in Meridian, MS on May 2, 2005 where she will spend 6 weeks in training. Dawn was recruited by Petty Officer 2nd Class Suitt of Gautier, MS. After graduating Dawn attended SUNY Delhi and earned her AAS degree.
When commenting on why she joined the Navy Dawn said: "I want my girls, ages 4 and 5, to understand they can do anything they put their minds to if they are truly committed and dedicated to it. I overcame so many obstacles to join the U.S. Navy because it was something I wanted with all my heart, and gave 110% until I achieved it. I may be the oldest recruit in my boot camp at age 35, but I guarantee NOBODY wanted it more than I did. My determination and the love and support of my family have gotten me this far and will bring me all the way."
