Midlakes Sports

by Ginny Konz

The modified team began play last week after what seemed like a long pre-season practice time. There is one new coach, Steve Shymkiw, who is working with the modified boys' lacrosse team. He is in his 4th year of teaching earth science at Midlakes and previously taught at Watkins Glen for 6 years, where he still coaches varsity girls' soccer. In high school at Union Springs he played basketball, soccer and tennis - the school did not have lacrosse. He has a bachelor's degree in geology from SUNY Geneseo and a master's from SUNY Cortland. I do not have his roster yet.
Zach Young provided the following roster for modified baseball: Kyle Consolie, Jacob Clyde, Erin Kelly, Tristen Ester, Ethan Thornton, Jordan Filiatreau, Dominic Beniamino, Matt DeHond, Kurt Romeiser, Gage Pendergast, Harley Morales, Austin Collett, Andrew Hilfiker, Tyler Jensen, Zachary Bassett, Sebastian Brundage, David Powers, Justin Buttaccio, Chris Heiner, and Travis Goodman. This team hopes to be playing their 4th games of the season Wednesday, May 4, home against Victor. They will be home again next Tuesday, hosting Mynderse.
The modified softball team is again being coached by Crystal Wagner, who released the following roster: co-captains Liz Maloney, Sam Hemminger and Emily Wright; Alyssa Olsen, Bethany Notebaert, Aliza DeWilde, Mareasa Garver, Ashley Coffey, Rachel Bloomer, Alissa Galliher, Brogan Hinckley, Jessica Foulkrod, Katie Baldwin, Ariel Smith, Jessica Coulombe, and Ashley Lane. This team will also be playing at home on Wednesday, May 4, against Victor and home again next Tuesday versus Mynderse.
Russ Stark is again coaching the modified girls' lacrosse team. After hosting one Canandaigua team last Friday, they will host Canandaigua again on Thursday, May 5. All the modified games are scheduled to begin at 4:15. This year the girls' team has more 7th than 8th graders. The 7th graders are Megan McVeigh, Emmy Clark, Alessandra Hemminger, Allison Millerd, Liz Cooley, Morgan Doyle, Alexandra Maher, Jolyne Kane, Nicole Owens, Kelsey Knitter, Devan Lapresi, Chelsea Campbell, Shannon Murphy, Nicole Mattoon, Sarah Maslyn, and Meghan Tillman. The 8th graders are Allison Strub, Kaja Parker, Claire Scheible, Jen Stoffel, Brooke Adams, Sarah Landschoot, Denitha Pruitt, Annie Bulley, Caity Kumkey, Gina Phamisith, Marki Michaels, and Kaila Fox.
