Norma E. Keating
PHELPS/NAPLES - Norma E. Keating, 84, of Naples, formerly of Phelps, passed away peacefully at her home Thursday, April 21, 2005.
There were no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ontario/Yates Hospice, 756 Pre-Emption Road, Geneva, 14456 or to Phelps Community Historical Society, Memorial Gifts, 66 Main St., Phelps, 14532.
She was born Aug. 20, 1920, in Hempstead, a daughter of George and Maud Wintress. She retried in 1985 from Warner-Lambert, Morris Plans, N.J. Norma was a member of Phelps Community Historical Society.
Norma is survived by her daughters, Sheila Bakos of Andover, N.J., Patricia Keating of Naples, Mary O'Connor of Cedar Knolls, N.J. and Madeline Keating of Westmoreland, N.H..; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother; Gilbert Wintress of Florham Park, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas E. Keating in 1984.
Barbara Jean "Mom" Lagana
NEWARK/LANTANTA, Fla. - Barbara Jean "Mom" Lagana, 76, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 23, 2005 surrounded by the love of her family.
The family gathered for a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 27 at The Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1000 Lantana Road, Lantana, Fla. There will also a be a service in Newark, at the convenience of her children at a future date.
Mom loved the companionship of her animals so much that the family has asked that contributions be given in her name to the local humane society.
Mom was born April 13, 1929, in Pulteney, and lived in Newark before moving to Lantana in 1971. She was actively involved in St. Michael's Paris in Newark and the Lourdes Residence, a retirement home in Lantana, before retirement.
She is survived by her children, Frank (Julie) of Lakeworth, Fla.; Arthur of Lantana, Fla.; Joan (Jim) Evarts of Ontario, Jean (Wayne) Workman of Lantana, Fla.; and Anthony of Rochester; eight grandchildren, Lisa, Anthony, Arthur, Jason, Alisha, Christina, James and Shawn; three great-grandchildren, Leah, Jacob and Jonathan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of Maxine Kelly of Charlotte, N.C.; Joyce Petrie of Arkport, Mary Coby of Corning, and June Rice of Clifton Springs, along with several half-brothers and sisters.
The children of Barbara wish to express their appreciation for all the care and kindness given to their mom during her extended illness, especially to Dr. The for his never-ending care that he gave her.
Charles A. McCumber
CLIFTON SPRINGS - Charles A. McCumber, 79, of 2297 County Road 13 East, died Sunday, April 24, 2005 at Clifton Springs Hospital.
There were no prior calling hours. Friends were invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday, April 27 at the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lynn Spence officiating.
Memorial donations may be made to the Noah Project, c/o Clifton Springs United Methodist Church, 1 E. Main St., Clifton Springs 14432.
Mr. McCumber was born Nov. 23, 1925 in Pembroke, the son of Charles A. and Lydia Crawford McCumber Sr. He was a member of the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church and the 2nd Milers. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II. Mr. McCumber retired after 37 years of service from Mobil Chemical in Macedon. He enjoyed wood working and furniture refinishing.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie Siegwald McCumber, with whom he celebrated 59 years of marriage on March 26; children, David McCumber of Suffern, Janet (Robert) Hollenbeck of Oswego and Nancy (Clarence) Guard of Phelps; grandchildren, Lisa Hollenbeck of Odenton, Md., ET 1st Class USN, Jill (Sgt. 1st Class US Army Theodore) Rangel of Spotsylvania, Va.; Erin (Donald) Pritchard of Oswego, Lynn (Nathan) Douglas of Liverpool, Jeffery Guard of Phelps, Matthew Guard of Canandaigua and Patrick Guard of Phelps; great-grandchildren Ted, Robert, and Tricia Rangel; a brother, Allen (Audrey) McCumber of Manchester; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Donald McCumber; and a sister, Jean McCumber.
Francis B. Roeland
CLIFTON SPRINGS - Francis B. Roeland, 84, of Thompson Road, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2005 at the Wayne County Nursing Home.
In keeping with his wishes, there were no prior calling hours. A memorial service to celebrate Francis's life will be offered at a later date.
Friends may contribute to Finger Lakes Community Cancer Center.
Francis was born Nov. 22, 1920, in Newark, the son of Jacob and Eva Marie Roeland, and had lived in the area all of his life. He served his country in the Navy during World War II.
Francis retired from Garlock Sealing Technologies after many years of service. He was a member of the Phelps American Legion. He loved teaching his family the art of fly fishing, loved the outdoors, camping and traveling with his wife.
Francis will be deeply missed by all of his loving family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marie of Clifton Springs; children, James Roeland of Clifton Springs, Edward (Janice) Roeland of Clifton Springs, Kathleen (Harry Bailey) Roeland of Rochester and Steven (Kathy) Roeland of Clifton Springs; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Pauline Richardson of Sarasota, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Leo.
Mrs. Betty M. Tennant
CLIFTON SPRINGS/SENECA CASTLE - Mrs., Betty M. Tennant, 73, of 2845 Seneca Castle-Orleans Road, went to be with the Lord after a long fight with cancer Thursday, April 21, 2005 at her home surrounded by her family.
Friends called Monday, April 25 and Tuesday, April 26 at the Seneca Castle United Methodist Church. The funeral followed calling hours on Tuesday with Rev. Babs Steinert officiating. Private family burial will be in Whitney Cemetery.
It is suggested that contributions be made to Ontario-Yates Hospice, 756 Pre-Emption Rd., Geneva, 14456 or the Seneca Castle United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 151, Seneca Castle, 14457.
Betty was born Oct. 8, 1931, in Savannah, the daughter of Julius and Freda Klossner Umiker. She graduated from Geneva High School in 1949, Auburn Community College in 1968 and William Smith College in 1970. Betty retired from Newark Central School where she taught English and German. For several years while she was teaching and many years after she retired, she was very involved with student exchange programs to Germany. Betty was a member of the Seneca Castle United Methodist Church since 1957. She taught Sunday school for many years and served on many committees. The Outreach Committee was very special to Betty. She also served as a Lay Leader and was an active Lay Speaker. Betty worked as a volunteer for the Red Cross in the blood donor program. She was an avid knitter, donating her many hand-knitted baby sweaters, hats and mittens to children in need. She also knitted 77 rainbow sweaters for Walk to Emmaus friends.
She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, James D. Tennant of Seneca Castle; daughters, Brenda (Gary) Mosher of Phelps, Marcia (Kevin) Musscak of Seneca Castle and Julie (Terry) Milliken of Clifton Springs; mother, Freda Umiker of Geneva; grandchildren Sheryl Denniston, Rachel Mussack, Andrew Mussack, Nicole Vehec and Ashley Vehec, Rebekah (Leslie) Fleming, Cynthia Mosher and Brian Milliken; brothers and sisters, Mildred (John) Albertson of Penn Yan, Robert (Nancy) Umiker of Fayetteville, Ark., Sandra (Richard) Wirth of Newark and Richard (Virginia) Umiker of Southboro, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.
Corinna C. Wilson
PHELPS - Corinna C. Wilson died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005.
She was the daughter of David and Arvilla Wilson of Phelps.
Burial was Thursday, April 28 in Oaklawn Cemetery.
