MOTHER'S DAY MAMMOGRAPHY CAMPAIGN
|
Assemblyman Brian M. Kolb (R,C-Canandaigua) would like to wish all moms a happy, safe and wonderful Mother's Day. The Assemblyman also reminded residents of the annual Mother's Day Mammography Campaign, sponsored by the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program, begins on Mother's Day - Sunday, May 8.
The hot line receives nearly 3,500 calls each year from concerned women and men throughout New York State and attracts 400,000 visitors to the program Web site. Questions about breast cancer, mammograms and protection from the disease are answered by breast cancer survivors. The most effective ways to battle breast cancer is early detection and diagnosis.
"I can think of no better time than Mother's Day to say thank you to all of the women who have given so much to our families and communities. We all have great women in our lives, women who mean so much to us. Please, take this opportunity to remind and encourage these women to have mammograms. A mammogram may save the life of someone special that you care about" Kolb said.
Hillary Rutter, hot line and program director, said, "We know that women are so busy taking care of their families that they often neglect their own health care. We hope that on Mother's Day our campaign will remind women and their family members of the importance of taking care of themselves."
More information and locations of accredited mammography facilities are available by calling the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program toll-free at (800) 877-8077. Callers with limited incomes can also find out about low-cost and free mammograms.

MOTHER'S DAY: GOOD TIME FOR HEALTH REMINDER
"Happy Mother's Day" to all the wonderful moms out there who will celebrate their special day on Sunday, May 8. My gift to all mothers - and to all women in New York - is to urge them to have their yearly mammograms and breast exams by their physicians.
Early detection is the best defense we have against breast cancer. When discovered early, a large percentage of women and men survive this dreaded disease. I recommend that individuals make appointments for testing as soon as possible.
To locate an accredited mammography facility nearby, call the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program toll-free at (800) 877-8077. Callers with limited income can also find out about low-cost and free mammograms.
The hot line, in existence for 25 years, is a project of the Adelphi University School of Social Work on Long Island, and it's funded by the state Legislature and Health Department. The hot line receives nearly 3,500 calls each year from concerned women and men throughout New York and attracts 400,000 visitors to its Web site. Questions about breast cancer, mammograms and protection from the disease are answered by medical professionals and breast cancer survivors. The most effective ways to battle breast cancer are early detection and diagnosis.
I hope all New Yorkers will encourage the women in their lives to schedule and carry through with mammograms and breast exams. Working together, we can stop this devastating disease in its tracks.

SHORTSVILLE FIREFIGHTERS PURCHASE DEFIBRILLATORS
Assemblyman Brian M. Kolb (R,C-Canandaigua), center, secured financial assistance for the Shortsville Fire Department, represented by Chief Jason Wagner, right, and Don Bruder, to purchase two lifesaving defibrillators for use during medical emergencies. Health care experts estimate that more than 5 million Americans suffer from heart disease but defibrillators, such as those held by Wagner and Bruder, offer chances for people to recover and live longer, healthier lives if rescue personnel have faster, better access to the machines during critical moments.
