Local RC&D Council Expands To Include Orange County
|
Syracuse, NY, May 3, 2005 - Joe DelVecchio, State Conservationist for the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) in New York, today announced the expansion of the Lower Hudson-Long Island Resource Conservation and Development Council (RC&D) Area to include Orange County, New York.
The reconstructed Lower Hudson-Long Island RC&D Area will consist of the Bronx, Dutchess, Kings, New York, Putnam, Queens, Richmond, Rockland, Suffolk, Ulster, Westchester and Orange counties in southeastern New York.
DelVecchio said with the addition of Orange County to the Lower Hudson-Long Island RC&D area, New York state now has 100 percent coverage of all counties through the eight existing RC&D council areas.
The RC&D program is designed to accelerate the conservation, development, and utilization of natural resources, improve the general level of economic activity, and enhance the environment and standard of living in authorized areas. It improves the capability of state, tribal and local units of government and local nonprofit organizations in rural and urban areas to plan, develop, and carry out programs for resource conservation and development.
The program is locally led and administered by NRCS, and the Lower Hudson-Long Island RC&D was initially authorized on September 29, 2000.
