DEDICATION SAT. JUNE 4, 2005 OF "THE SPRINGS" OF CLIFTON SPRINGS
(Article by Fred Gifford)
First came the decision by the Board of the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic to consider the renewal here of the use of "alternative medicine" and the use again of our once famous sulphur water for baths. Next came the selection of a small area in the hospital to be set aside to begin this venture. This was accomplished early in this new century and by September of 2000 a small staff set in motion a revival of Dr. Foster's vision of the many avenues of healing.
The sulphur waters, which flowed through the center of Clifton Spring,
when Dr. Henry Foster came here n 1850, continue to flow today. His growing venture brought thousands here in the years that followed but as medical knowledge mushroomed, in the mid-1900's, less and less attention was given to "alternative medicine!"
We wish to salute this new venture on the occasion of the official opening of the "Springs of Clifton," June 4th. Over the past year or two, work had gone forward in the 1300 wing of the hospital, to bring again to our fine hospital, treatments that have not been readily available in the past. Some of these services were available many years ago when Dr. Foster ran the institution. Many of these fields are not new, but for years past have hovered in the wings of main-stream medicine. Now the general public will again be able to avail themselves of them.
The "SPRINGS" are dedicated to the idea that healing is a holistic endeavor, which should address body, mind and spirit to help return one to good health. The new services included in this new wing include (but are not limited to) the following: sulphur baths, acupuncture, chiropractic services, massage, pedicure, manicures, facials & cosmetics. There are 6 rooms with tubs, one of which has jets. Other rooms are set aside for massage and the additional fields now to be available.
One enters the wing through glass doors inside which is a registration desk. Just off this entry to the left are two offices and across the hall, a patient waiting room. You notice immediately, as you enter wing, soft relaxing music in the background. The waiting room has wall murals, in a nature setting, which surround you with a restful location in which to await whatever service you are there to receive. The staff is warm and helpful with a sense that they are there to help you with whatever you may need to enrich your life and health.
Under the heading of "naturopathy" are items such as clinical nutrition, homeopathy, and counseling. In "hydrotherapy" there are of course the baths and hydro-massage. The "chiropractic field" is well known today and each year proving that it can take a real part in assisting in the restoration of the body. "Massage" has been used for hundreds of years and performs many miracles in total relaxation.
A field, new to me, is that of ""Energy Medicine" with such things as "reiki" and other therapeutic exercises.
Dr. Les Moore, ND, MSOM, LAC (Naturopathic Doctor, Master of Science in Oriental Medicine & Licensed Acupuncturist) is Director of the "Springs; Charlotte Wytias, RN, is Program Manager and Gladys Simons is Administrative Assistant. These are supported by a fine staff of specialists in the fields available.
On June 4th, 2005 at 11 AM, an official dedication of the newly renovated 1300 wing of the Clifton Springs Hospital will be held (weather permitting) in the Hydrotherapy Garden. This new garden lies between two wings of the hospital and several of the windows of the new "Springs" look out on this beautiful setting. A walk runs through the garden, with sparkling, white sulphur water gently flowing from one of the springs. It runs in a twisting line through the park until the overflow empties into the nearby stream. Within this park area is a restful gazebo where visitors can spend some time enjoying their surroundings
The SPRINGS is a place of health and healing and it is a welcome addition to the fine medical services already provided by the Clifton Springs Hospital and its employees. As we look ahead to the time that the public comes to better know of its offerings, I am sure we will find people again flocking here to receive its special services.
Please join me in extending a warm welcome to THE "NEW" SPRINGS OF CLIFTON. We trust that all who come here will be enriched by it's alternative avenues of medical healing so badly needed in today's world!
