David R. Roll

      CLIFTON SPRINGS - David R. Roll, 74, of 1650 County Rd. 43, died Friday, June 3, 2005 at Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic following an extended illness.
      Family and friends called Sunday, June 5 and Monday, June 6 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. There was a Masonic Service held Monday, June 6 at the funeral home. Funeral services were Tuesday, June 7 in the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lynn Spence officiating. Burial followed in Riverview Cemetery in Clifton Springs.
      Memorial contributions may be made to the Noah Building Project Fund, c/o Clifton Springs United Methodist Church, 1 E. Main St., Clifton Springs, 14432.
      Mr. Roll was born Aug. 8, 1930, in Avoca, a son of Edwin and Louise Wolf Roll. For the past 60-plus years he had lived in Clifton Springs. David was a partner in Crowley's Lawn and Power Equipment Co. of Phelps for many years. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the Air Force. On Jan. 21, 1956, he married the former Hildreth "Birdie" Bird. Mr. Roll was past master of Serenity Mason Lodge 200 of the F&AM in Phelps. He was also a Shriner in the Damascus Lodge of Rochester. David was past president of the Phelps Rotary Club, where he was awarded a Paul Harris Fellow, the highest award bestowed upon a Rotarian. He had volunteered many hours for the Food Cupboard in Clifton Springs.
      Surviving are his wife of more than 49 years, Hildreth "Birdie" Roll of Clifton Springs; one daughter, Patricia Roll of Clifton Springs; one son, Daniel (Carolynn) Roll of Erie, Pa.; four grandchildren, Emily Moore, Mary, Christopher and Matthew Roll; one great-grandson, Aidan Moore; his brother, Donald (Barbara) Roll of Galway; his sisters, Violet (Ralph) Freeman of Friendship, Arlene (Wilford) McWilliams of Zebulon, N.C., and Sharon (Walter) Slagle of Fayetteville; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
      He was predeceased by his brother, Edwin; and his sisters, Hilda Boniak and Lois Roll.


Kathe A. Barra

      GENEVA - Kathe A. Barra, 97, of 4179 Glass Factory Bay Road, passed away Monday, June 6, 2005 at Geneva Living Center North.
      Friends called Thursday, June 9 at the McGuigan Funeral Home. Funeral services were Friday, June 10 at the funeral home. The Rev. Daniel Hoffman, pastor of the Zion Lutheran Church, officiated. Burial followed at the Elm Lawn Cemetery in Tonawanda.
      Memorial donations may be sent to the Salvation Army.
      Kathe was born Aug. 30, 1907, in Bremen, Germany, the daughter of Johann and Meta Gunnemann Puls. Kathe came to America in 1913 and after her marriage, she settled in Buffalo where she and her husband owned K&T Delicatessen on Delaware Avenue in Tonawanda. She had an amazing rose garden and she loved to feed the ducks and birds. Kathe was loved by many friends and was called "Grandma" by everyone.
      Kathe is survived by her son, Theodore (Kathleen) Barra Jr. of Tonawanda, Curtis Barra of Missouri and Jeffrey (Lori-Anne) Barra of Phelps; three great-grandchildren, Jason, Lisa and Cassandra Barra; and one great-great-grandchild, Abigail.
      She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore C. Barra in 1974.


Martha Deeb Fazzari

      BRADENTON, Fla.; Martha "Dee" D. Fazzari, 88, departed this life May 15, 2005, in Bradenton, Fla.
      A Memorials Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, June 19 at St. Michael's Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 98 Genesee St. in Geneva.
      Donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans Memorial Program, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
      Martha was born in Manchester, and served as a lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps. She graduated as a registered nurse from Buffalo City Hospital, Buffalo. She worked for 25 years at George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C. where she touched the lives of many. Martha was a very active member of the Touchdown Club in Washington, D.C. and was a charter member of the Woman's Memorial.
      Upon her retirement, she relocated to Bradenton, Fla. In 1987. She was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 18, and Moose Club Chapter 1072. Martha was affiliated with Bradenton Community Church.
      Those left to cherish her memory are a devoted son, F. Michael Fazzari; three sisters, Sarah Johnson, Betty Eassa of Syracuse, and Esther Ferris of Rochester; one brother, Michael Deeb of Arlington, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.


Leon Galens

      RUSHVILLE - Leon Galens, 83, died Friday, June 3, 2005 at this Twitchell Road home, surrounded by his loving family.
      Friends called Monday, June 6 at the Fuller Funeral Home, in Canandaigua where funeral services were held Tuesday, June 7. Burial will be in Overackers Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
      Contributions in his memory may be made to Ontario-Yates Hospice, 756 Pre-Emption Road, Geneva 14456, the Middlesex Volunteer Ambulance, or to Heifer Project International.
      Leon was born Nov. 28, 1921 in Clifton Springs, to the late John and Emma Maslyn Galens. He attended rural school and spent the next 67 years learning something new every day. He served with the Merchant Marines during World War II. Leon owned and operated farms in Hopewell and Rushville for many years. Although Leon had been employed in other occupations, farming was his first love and he always felt a special spirituality while working with the earth.
      He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marge Kneut Galen so Rushville; his children, Mike (Lisa) Galens of Stanley, Beth (Mike) Reifsteck of Rushville, Anne (Randy) Grover of Italy Valley and Amy (Scott) Brown of Rushville; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his sisters, Helen Crowley of Penn Yan, Regina (Leo) Krolak of Newark and Rosilie Galens of Newark; his brothers, Charles Galens and Robert Galens, both of Clifton Springs; and Francis Galens of Phelps; and several nieces and nephews.
      He was preceded in death by his sisters, Alma DeWild and Ruth Gardner; and his brothers, Lewis, Jack, and William Galens.
