PHIL LOSSIFER

Phil Lossifer 4th of July
Amongst Media screamin', politicians hot air, looked fer a positive slant fer Fourth of July issue. There's much data buried under th' verbage onslaught of negativity. But:
Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld, Health Editor for Parade Magazine paper insert in Sunday papers hada article 'bout hospital ship USNS Mercy. Saw years ago, quite impressive. Our guvmint ast Project Hope, a humanitarian organization for volunteers t' serve on Mercy in earthquake areas. Over 3000 people volunteered!! Over 200 selected hadta serve minimum 30 days, most stayed beyond t' treat earthquake survivors. What follows, an' coupla other comments, should make one proud t' be American, since it ain't guns barkin' in night, etc. It was humanitarian in nature, helpin' those who din't have access t' medical care. Won't go inta thrust of article, get copy, an' be proud. Durin' relief effort Media showed American efforts from other ships, like aircraft carriers treatin' injured. Food bein' passed our t' hungry. Can anyone imagine money spent for humanitarian efforts by military? Aircraft designed for war carryin' food, medicine, shelter. Imagine good will generated by these efforts. Eye doctors removin' cataracts, children bein' vaccinated, th' list goes on. Mercy's crew repaired water line, introduced kids t' oral hygiene, list goes on!
When another earthquake occurred, Mercy was ordered into duty a'gin. Same story, different place. Although Media covered these efforts, they've let good efforts die on back pages of their coverage. No, CNN, Fox, haven't had spesuls reportin' this, only diatribes of other stories detrimental t' American ways of life.
Which brings th' point our military kin do more good wit backhoes an' dozers than bullets. Durin' m' service we s'ported orphanages durin overseas service. Many areas of world need basic needs, an' young'uns'll remember who helped 'em.
Project Hope is involved in medical programs throughout world. Doctors without borders, etc. One woman in Watkins Glen, of all places, volunteered in th' earthquake ravaged area, was also at Ground Zero on 9/11, helping. People helpin' People.
We're not ugly Americans, but compassionate people helpin' others at home an' throughout th' world. Our forrin aid has fed many, startin' with Truman Doctrine! Our maligned welfare system helps our own, social security helpin' ole goats like me. Despite all bad newscasts an' viewpoints from overfed pompous gurus, America's common folk do respond when a crisis occurs. How many missionaries in Africa use American contributions?
As parade passes by, drum beatin, bugles playin' celebratin' birth of our nation is often missed for its compassion an' attributes. Th' spreadin' of our American dream has been an' should be actions, not vocalization, nor war. We'll leave that t' polyticans. Proud t' be American, an' so should every one else. Th' world is a better place because ------- of us, no matter what our detractors or enemies state. There'll nevr be 'nuff sed on this!

Phil Lossifer's advice to the graduates
|
Graduation time a'gin, rolls 'round each year. Some Philisms t' hold new graduate in good stead. First, yer bein' reminded yer th' first graduates since 9/11, which really don't mean much. Now fer advice an' isms.
Never do business with is relatives, friends an' crooks, an' in that order. Never loan money t' a friend, 'cause they'll be an' enemy when y' want payback. Don't borry from friends, same result. Marryin' money might mean life of hard labor.
Don't let graduation go t' yer head. Lotta people know more'n y' do, many larnt from Hard Knock University. That collige gives bruises an' scars, no diplomas.
Don't become friendly wit Demon Rum an' tabaccy. Mayn't hurt t'day, but Demon Rum in excess kills brain cells, puts burden on liver. Many illnesses result of partyin' hard, too often an' too long. Mother Nature gets her turn sooner er later. Booze an' pack of tabaccy money takes food off fambly table. Fambly comes first! Keep way from drugs, they worse.
Put ten percent 'way each payday, leave fer ole age. Be on yer afore y' know it. Playin' stock market might work, lessen y' have megabucks ain't worth it.
Car dealers, auctioneers an' stock brokers don't lie, truth may need explanin'
Get involved wit politics, know where power lies. Attend public meetins', no matter how borin' or stupid. After while y' kin put in yer two cents worth, mite be invited t' public trough. Leaders'll steal yer good ideas, blame y' fer their bad ones. Way system works! This yer country, pertect it!
On above, many young'uns t'day don't recognize what's goin' on. Laws pertectin' innocents can convict them. (See dictatorships)
High school graduates need trade or more larnin' afore they kin make bucks t' s'port famblies. Fixin' car's carburetor wit screwdriver gone, need t' understand computers.
Best way t' find work is t' start early, check each lace until y' get hired. Larn from oldest person in company, never say "we don't do it that way". They'll save yer future! Wage amount don't matter, feedin' face is. Read employment ads ever day fer somtin' better or t' keep in touch! Larn all y' kin 'bout company, best way is t' make frens wit janitor. Waste ain't only thing they pick up in their work.
Goin' up ladder of success, remember yer only as good as yer people. Keep good ones, bad ones'll leave by themselves. Butts y' kick on way up may kick yours on way down.
Give Lord his due, thank 'im at night fer day, an' fer wakin' up in mornin'. Lord doesn't give nothin' you cain't handle, although there's times he pushes issue. Job had his days, y' might have few yerself. Watch out fer Sunday saints, weekday devils. Finally, protect your country, we've worked hard buildin' it, it's your's t' maintain. Congratulations, 'nuff sed.
