Relatives As Parents Program (RAPP) Retreat Held at 4-H Camp Bristol Hills
Bristol- Grandparents and Relatives Raising Other's Children from Seneca, Wayne, and Ontario Counties participated in the Relatives As Parents Program (RAPP) Retreat weekend June 24- 25th 2005. The retreat took place at 4-H Camp Bristol Hills. Families participated in activities that strengthen the unique family structure of relative caring for other's children. William Armbruster, AARP Associate New York State Director, was the featured speaker on Saturday for the adult group. Mr. Armbruster, who lives in Webster, explained how the families can advocate for the best interest of their grandchild/child in their care. He led the relative caregivers through an activity to frame the issue of grandparent/relative care. Parents Program 2005 National Training and Orientation Conference
Canandaigua-- Extension Resource Educator Isabelle Doran Jensen and Second Time Around Parent Chairperson Charlotte Stanton attended The Brookdale Relatives As Parents Program 2005 National Training and Orientation Conference at the Renaissance Denver Hotel, Denver, Colorado June 10 through the 12. Representatives from across the United States came together to gain technical assistance and resources to enable professionals to serve those relatives who are raising other's children. Currently 4.5 million grandchildren are being raised by their grandparents and another 1.6 million children are being raised by relatives. The Brookdale Foundation supports the conference and currently funds programs attended at no cost. Plenary Sessions, Breakfast Topic Tables, Workshop Sessions and networking takes place during the two-day conference. The Relatives as Parents Program was initiated in 1996. It is designed to encourage and promote the creation or expansion of services for grandparents and other relatives who have taken on the responsibility of surrogate parenting. SULPHUR SPRINGS DUATHLON RAISES $3500 FOR CARDIAC REHAB DEPARTMENT AT CLIFTON SPRINGS HOSPITAL
CLIFTON SPRINGS, NY - The 2nd Annual Sulphur Springs Duathlon, held on Sunday, June 26, 2005, raised more than $3500 for the Cardiac Rehab Department at Clifton Springs Hospital. The event featured 50 athletes who competed in a timed 5K Run, 30K Bike and 5K Run. Yarger Golf Tournament Raises $10K
VICTOR, NY - The 8th Annual Yarger Memorial Golf Scramble was held on Saturday, June 11 at the Victor Hills Golf Course.
