PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT - HEAT EXHAUSTION
|
The Emergency Department at Clifton Springs Hospital provides the following guidelines to avoid heat exhaustion. Heat exhaustion follows excessive heat exposure or strenuous physical activity. It may, however, particularly effect elderly or chronically ill and small children.
1. Stay out the of sun if possible and avoid prolonged exposure to sun.
2. Stay in a cool, well-ventilated environment.
3. Drink plenty of fluids. Avoid alcohol.
4. Wear light colored, loose-fitting clothes.
5. Avoid excessive physical activity.
6. Take tepid (lukewarm) showers and baths. NOT COLD.
Signs of heat exhaustion (If you develop any of these symptoms, seek medical advice or treatment at once):
Hot, dry skin; Confusion; Headache; Nausea; Vomiting Visual disturbances; Muscle cramps; Rapid pulse; Diarrhea; Dizziness
