FINGER LAKES COUNCIL BOY SCOUTS HONOR HERO
|
At its annual recognition dinner June 16, the Finger Lakes Council, Boy Scouts of America presented an Honor Medal with Crossed Palms to Michael Compton of Marion. The medal was presented by Douglas H. Dittrick, president of the Northeast Region.
Compton, Scoutmaster of Troop 137, applied his Scouting skills to save two people from a fiery automobile crash. The crossed palms signify that Compton, who was injured during the rescue, risked his own life.
This is the second heroism medal the Finger Lakes Council has presented in the past six months. At its Youthpower Dinner in February, the council presented 14 year old Scout David Allman of Williamson with the Medal of Merit for saving the life of his sister, who was choking.
Dittrick noted that the Finger Lakes Council has an enviable record for Scouts applying their skills to save lives. The Geneva-based council has recently recognized more heroes than some large, metropolitan councils.
The Finger Lakes Council serves nearly 4,000 youth members and 2,000 adult leaders in Ontario, Wayne, Seneca, and Yates Counties.
