FLCC CAREER SERVICES OFFICE RECEIVES AWARDS
|
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (June 28, 2005) -The Finger Lakes Community College Office of Career Services recently received an Excellence in Programming award for a promotional video entitled "Unsolved Career Mysteries" at the 29th Annual SUNY Career Development Organization conference in Kerhonkson, N.Y. Additionally, the video was selected out of all award submissions as the "best of the best."
The video, based on the popular TV show "Unsolved Mysteries," was created as an entertaining and informative promotional tool used to market the programs of the Career Services Office to current and prospective students, as well as provide them with information and resources to make informed decisions. In the spring of 2004, the Career Services staff worked closely with the Educational Technology Department, the Center for Advisement, and several students to develop the video. The final version of the video was completed in September 2004 and was broadcast around the campus and on local public access TV.
While at the conference, Dr. Richard Schlesinger, career services coordinator, presented a workshop entitled "Using the Strong and Myers Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) tests in Career Counseling" to SUNY Career Development colleagues from around the state. The workshop featured strategies for utilizing the web-based version of the MBTI and Strong together or independently for career counseling, team building, and communication purposes. Practical tips for marketing the service to students, staff and faculty were also offered.
