Summer Conjuring in People's Park
|
Seneca Falls, NY - Nothing conjures up a summer's image more than a beautiful park by the water with a community band playing in a bandstand. That image is reality in Seneca Falls where the Seneca Falls Community Band continues its summer schedule of concerts on Friday, July 8, 2005 at 7:00 p.m.in People's Park.
Karen Lucas, the band's music director, has chosen a program full of favorites for young and old, ranging from popular and contemporary music to Broadway tunes and traditional marches. Friday's concert includes the selections: "March of the Royal Guards," Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Oklahoma," Walt Disney's "Aladdin," "The Beatles," "Earth, Wind & Fire," Henry Fillmore's popular march "His Honor," Bernstein & Sondheim's "Highlights from West Side Story," "Cartoon Symphony," "The Roaring 20's," and Jerry Herman's "Hello Dolly!"
On Tuesday evening, July 12, 2005 the band again will perform for the annual Erie Canal Bikers' Tour at 7:00 p.m. in Lafayette Park, Waterloo, NY. After a full day of bicycling from the west to the east along the length of the Erie Canal system, the group will relax while listening to the Seneca Falls Community Band. "This tradition," said Karen Lucas, "is one we always look forward to. We invite the community to meet the bikers as we play this special concert."
All concerts by the band are free and open to the public. The Seneca Falls Community Band is comprised entirely of volunteers whose reward is playing music; the band's music and operational expenses are supported by contributions and donations from the community.
