The Finger Lakes Addictions Counseling and Referral Agency, Inc. (FLACRA) has been blessed with an extraordinary gift from the trust of Mary F. Lienk, long-standing Geneva resident.
Mary passed on November 7, 2003 and as part of her estate that was recently settled was a gift awarding FLACRA $400,000.00. This gift was made in memory of Stephen A. Farnsworth, her son, who had received prior treatment at FLACRA. Tragically, Stephen died as a result of his chemical dependency issues. The Executive Director of FLACRA had the privilege of speaking with Marissa, Stephen's daughter who reinforced the obvious commitment that Mary held close to her own heart in her concern for the lives of alcohol and substance abusers. This incredible woman surely knew the devastation that alcohol and substance abuse causes in families and in our community.
While FLACRA's intentions for these funds have not been finalized a long-standing need is in the area of housing, or more specifically Supportive Living services for alcohol and substance abusers. This gift may serve as an opportunity to purchase a residence for this purpose.
While addiction recovery self-help programs clearly and loudly espouse the importance of gratitude, Mary Lienk and her family continue to teach us that part of being grateful is giving back. Mary's spirit of giving will resonate with positive changes for immeasurable numbers of lives because of it.
FLACRA's Staff, Board and most importantly present and future clients express tremendous appreciation for this amazing gift.
