PLEASANT SURPRISE
By Bob Bowdren
|

From time to time, I get a "Big Mac" attack and go to McDonald's for relief. At the Manchester location they are very considerate, for although it is self serve, if they see you have a little problem walking around, the cashier will bring your tray to your table and pour your drink for you.
The last time I was there, my tray was brought to my table, but the young lady forgot to fix the drink. It was no big deal and I got up to do it myself. A gentleman a few tables away (sitting with his wife and family) offered to get my drink. I thanked him and told him what I wanted to drink. When he returned with my drink he said, " I noticed your hat. Were you in the Military?" I had on a cap with an eagle and American Flag on it. I replied that I was in the Marine Corps during the Korean war. I took my drink and thanked him. He said, "No, I want to thank you! It is an honor to be able to do this for you, and God bless you." With that, he returned to his own table and his family.
I was both surprised and pleased at his response, recalling the terrible reception our Viet Nam veterans received by so many, when they came home. May we never repeat that huge error. Whoever this gentleman was, he made my day!
