CLIFTON SPRINGS BUSINESS OF THE MONTH
Established in 1985 as a "one man repair shop" by Bob Dorgan, the business originally opened on Route 21 in Chapin, NY. Seeing an opportunity to expand, Bob moved the business to a larger facility in Clifton Springs in 1986. As the customer list expanded, employees were added and additional equipment purchased. The business changed in nature to include custom metal fabrication, ornamental iron, small structural steel projects and welded piping systems. As the business grew, the building that housed the company became cramped and in 1997 the decision to move one more time was made to the current location, which is a 7000 square foot building on a 7 acre site at 2360 Route 96, Clifton Springs, NY.
Dorgan Welding offers multiple welding, cutting, punching, forming and bending processes and fabricate items too numerous to list, from steel, aluminum, stainless steel and in many cases, exotic metals. The customer list includes many local factories, municipalities, contractors and builders. The "repair" side of the company has continued to flourish and many local businesses, as well as the farming community, consider Dorgan Welding their first choice to have their equipment repaired in a timely manner for an affordable price.
Bob and his wife Theresa are no strangers to the area. Both have lived in the Phelps-Clifton Springs area for most of their lives. Both Bob and Theresa are involved heavily in the Phelps-Clifton Springs communities serving on many committees, as well as service organizations and boards.
They currently reside on White Road in Phelps and have two daughters, Carrie and Jamie. Both girls have "flown the coop". Carrie is now married and lives in Newark, NY, while Jamie has opted to make Boston her home.
