CLASS OF '55 OF PHELPS CENTRAL SCHOOL CELEBRATES 50TH CLASS REUNION ON THE SESQUICENTENNIAL YEAR OF THE VILLAGE OF PHELPS
From Marge Cauwels

The Class of 1955 of Phelps High School celebrated its 50th year reunion, July 30, at the Phelps Hotel, with 47 people present.
Don Ulmer, class president, assumed the duties as master of ceremonies. Ben House gave the invocation at the start of the evening followed by Don Ulmer leading the class in a toast with souvenir commemorative glasses. At the reunion Saturday, as a tribute to the Class Advisor Wilbur Hartman, seven of the men who sang solos in Minstrel performances in High School belted out some great songs accompanied by Charlotte Howard on the keyboard. The "end men" participating were Carl DeRuyter, Bill Filiatreau, Morgan Knapp, Stanley Maines, Ray Phillips, Don Ulmer, and Gerry VanCamp. Interlocutor, Ray VanHemel, joined in vocalizing with the "end men". Wilbur Hartman had directed two years of minstrel shows for the class of 55.
Highlights of the reunion were a visit to an ailing classmate, Bette Ann Enders, on Friday afternoon, an informal gathering at the Phelps Hotel Friday evening, the reunion Saturday evening at the Phelps Hotel, and a Brunch at the Howe House in Phelps on Sunday.
The Class of 55 has donated a brick in the Gazebo at Red Field Commons on Park St. in Phelps.
The wonderful, caring advisors of the Class of 55 were Miriam Howard and Wilbur Hartman, who are both deceased.
The reunion committee was Ann Connor Bohner, Carol Smith Conklin, Marge Scherbyn Cauwels, Beverly King Cheney, Gail Hart DeWeaver, Charlotte Adams Howard, Bud Nayaert, and Don Ulmer.
Officers of the Cass are Don Ulmer, President; Ann Connor Bohner, Vice President; and Marge Scherbyn Cauwels, secretary. Janet Nagel Schultz, who is deceased, was the class treasurer.
This 50th reunion was a most treasured reunion for all participants.
