Hadda contractor workin' on m' house, an' BW was getting' snippy. If yer ever had spousal experience with contractors you know the best thing is t' leave town, which we did.
Hard not t' rant 'bout what's goin' on politically, not many people had anythin' good t' say 'bout our leaders. Nor Media, either! Too many gladhanders, ignorin' people's problems. Leaders common people ridicule their pompous actions.
First took in Ford Museum. We're not talkin' only cars, but power plants, includin' steam tractor twice as big as local shows. Had some house stuff: washers, old iron stoves. Never saw so many different ones, but, not one Andes stove! Hadda full size replica, (I think) of first railroad engines, DeWitt Clinton with stagecoach type cars. Plus couple biggies from Chesapeake an' Ohio. Had two Presidential cars, one was Reagan's. That car's bulletproof glass had turned cloudy, (won't go there) couldn't see inside. Seems a problem makin' the glass. By five BW was ready fer beddy bye!
Next day went t' Dearborn Museum, an' kids, y' ain't lived till y've seen this 'n. Model T Fords drivin' y' hither an' yon, fer a price, naturally. Ole buildin's an' people dressed in costume of early 1900's. Felt downright sorry fer them, musta sweated off five pounds a day! Carousel (Merry go Round t' young 'ns) was made in North Tonawanda. A real beauty, it was. Most interestin' was Ford had Edison's workshops set up showin' skills of bygone days. There were houses of famous people, writers, etc. Ford may have been a cranky ole goat, but Dearborn is the best replica of the past I've ever seen. Should be a must-stop fer teenagers, long as they listen an' larn.
Next stop was t' South Bend, wanted t' see Notre Dame University's chapel. Couldn't get near it, in use alla the time. We went t' the Studebaker Museum, they're movin' it t' larger quarters. Some real interestin' exhibits, includin' a Civil War horse-drawn ambulance. Will cover more later.
Din't know it, but saw Auburn, Indiana had a car museum. Many museums have only a few exhibits an' high priced gift shops but this display was simply fantastic. This is where Auburn, Cord an' Dusenbergs cars were made years ago. Nuff chrome t' put yer eyes out, shined like the moon on a dark night. Came 'crost a sports car designed t' run, brochure sed, in Watkins Glen durin' the early years. People there din't know much history 'bout it, hafta talk, I guess t' Watkins people.
They tol' me 'bout Kayser War Museum, an' this is a don't-miss. 'Nuff German an' American military equipment t' start another Second World War. Had some wax figures aside equipment, scared the bejeebers outta BW when she saw Patton's figger by a 4x4. Had Ike's Packard look-alike, with wax figger of him an' his lady chauffer aside his car. 'Nuff sed, space is short, Als Heimer kicks in quick when yer an ole goat!
