Alice C. Armitage

      BATH - Alice C. Armitage, 78, of Route 415 in South Bath, died Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005 in Hopewell, as a result of an automobile accident.
      Friends and family attended calling hours on Thursday, Aug. 25 at Fagan's Funeral Home in Bath. A Rosary service was at 7:30 p.m. that evening. A Mass of Christina burial was celebrated Friday, Aug. 26 with the Rev. Frank Erb as celebrant.
      Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
      Alice was born Dec. 31, 1926, in Schenectady, the daughter of Cecil and Helen Berner. She was a retired employee of New York state. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Bath.
      She is survived by eight children, Donald (Sue) Armitage of Ogden, Utah, Elizabeth (Frederick) Muller of Bath, Richard (Barbara) Armitage of Allentown, Pa., Michael (Polly) Armitage of China, Maine, Paul (Frances) Armitage of Westport, Robert (Andrea) Armitage of Houston, Mary Jane Stell (Todd) of Elverson, Pa., and Margaret (Kyle) Gage of Clifton Springs; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Olive Berner, Lois Mix and Carol Kochis, all of Schenectady; and many nieces and nephews.
      She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Armitage, in 2001.


Beverly Anne Deats

      PHELPS - Beverly Anne Deats, 63, of 1 Church St., in Phelps, died Tuesday, Aug. 23 at Highland Hospital in Rochester.
      Friends called Thursday, Aug. 25 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services were Friday, Aug. 26 at the funeral home. Private burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
      Contributions may be made to Phelps Ambulance Inc., 7 Exchange St., Phelps 14532.
      Bev was born on Feb. 10, 1942, in West Point, Arkansas. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She co-owned and operated Bev's Variety Store in Phelps with her husband Bob for the last 17 years. Bev loved to sing; she belonged to the Sweet Adelines of Phelps, William Smith Choir and the Phelps Community Choir. She was active with the Phelps Volunteer Ambulance and was proud of her accomplishment of becoming an EMT. Bev also enjoyed playing golf with her husband, Bob.
      She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Robert "Bob" Deats of Phelps; son, William Way of Phelps; her mother, Roxanne of Arkansas; and many, many friends.


Nancy K. Ellis

      NEWARK - Nancy Kathleen Fagner Ellis, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005 at the House of John in Clifton Springs.
      Family and friends attended calling hours on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at the Norman L. Waterman Funeral Home in Newark. A funeral service was held Wednesday, Aug. 24 at the funeral home with the Rev. Gerald Harris officiating. Burial followed in Riverview Cemetery.
      In memory of Nancy, the family requests donations be sent to the House of John, 14 Spring St., Clifton Springs, or to the Finger Lakes Community Cancer Center, 2 Coulter Rd., Clifton Springs 14432.
      Nancy was born Nov. 18, 1946, in Rochester, the daughter of Lester and Myrtle Johnson Fagner. She was a graduate of Newark High School in 1964. She had worked for Garlock Corp. in Palmyra in document control and Perkin-Elmer in Phelps.
      Nancy was a member of the Red Hat Society. She worked many hours as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society and was involved with fund raising through Stepping in Style and Relay for Life. Nancy enjoyed camping and reading.
      Nancy will be remembered and devoted husband of 40 years, Gilbert Ellis; daughters, Susan (Kevin) Sharp and Wendy (Jim) Colacino, both of Newark; four grandchildren, Brittnay, Sarah, Joe and Brian; mother, Myrtle Fagner of Newark; brother, David (Donna) Fagner of Newark; sister, Julie (Daryl) Beech of South Carolina; father and mother-in-law, Gilbert and Elaine Ellis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ricky (Kathy), Michel (Betty) Ellis, Christine (Gary) Weed and Roxanne (Ralph) Button; and many nieces and nephews.
      Nancy was predeceased by her father, Lester Fagner on Oct. 8, 1995.


Bernice E. VanHooft

      NEWARK - Bernice E. VanHooft, 74, of South Main Street in Newark, passed away Sunday, Aug. 21, 2005 at the DeMay Living Center in Newark. She has fought the good fight, she has kept the faith and she is now with her heavenly father.
      Friends called Wednesday, Aug. 24 at the Eacker Funeral Home in Phelps. Funeral services followed at the funeral home. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery.
      Friends may contribute to the American Cancer Society in Bernice's memory.
      Bernice was born Aug. 23, 1930, in Casa, Ark., the daughter of the late James and Lennie Opal George. She was a member of the Church of Christ and spent her life worshipping the Lord. Bernice was a senior companion for the Fingerlakes DDSO. She was a devoted caregiver. She loved to sew and do arts and crafts. She will be sadly missed by all her loving family and friends.
      She is survived by her son, James VanHooft of Lyons; daughters, Renee (Howard) DeRue of Newark and Sheree (Dannel) Lawrence of Newark; sisters, Wanda Cline of Ruskin, Fla., and Della Jones of Oakridge, Ore.; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
      Bernice was predeceased by her husband, Peter L. VanHooft; and sister, Margaret George.
