FLCC'S WILLIAMS-INSALACO GALLERY 34 PRESENTS "SILK ROAD"

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Sept. 7, 2005) - The Williams-Insalaco Gallery 34 at Finger Lakes Community College presents an exhibition of silk constructions, entitled "Silk Road," by Mary Ann Scarborough of Holley, N.Y.
Located on the first floor of the Canandaigua campus, 4355 Lakeshore Drive, the Gallery will host the exhibition Sept. 22 - Oct. 28. The opening reception will take place on Sept. 22 from 1-2 p.m. with a talk given by the artist.
Scarborough's silk constructions incorporate silk fabrics sewn by hand, embroidered, and sometimes embellished with beads and wire. While the methods she uses are considered traditional, her imagery is based in abstract art. In addition to wall hangings, Scarborough has also explored three dimensional mixed media work. She studied at SUNY Brockport under Jack Wolsky.
A regular exhibitor at the local Sonnenberg Arts at the Gardens Show, which she has received merit awards. Scarborough has also shown her work at the Albright Knox Gallery in Buffalo, the Rochester Contemporary Gallery, and the Rochester Memorial Art Gallery. Nationally, she has been included in the Page-Walker Art and History Center in Cary, N.C., the International Quilt Market in Houston, T.X., the Maude Kerns Art Center in Eugene O.R., and the Zoller Gallery at Penn State University and the Erie Art Museum, both in P.A., among many others. Scarborough has received several New York State Council of the Arts grants, as well as, private and public commissions.
Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
