Leila J. Wensel Lawrence
GENEVA - Leila J. Wensel Lawrence, 79, formerly of Geneva, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2005 at her daughter's home in Katy, Texas, following an extended illness.
A private memorial service will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or the American Heart and Lung Association.
Lee, as she was known to friends and family, is survived by her daughter, Margo (Stephen) O'Connor of Katy and granddaughter, Shannon O'Connor; son, H. Eugene "Spike" (Carla) Lawrence and grandchildren, Jennifer and Christopher Lawrence of Cedar Park, Texas; daughter, Mary Lee (David) Maine and grandson, Cory Maine of Canandaigua; brothers, Kenneth (Arddy) Wensel and Raymond (Dorrie) Wensel; brothers-in-law, Eugene K. (Elsie) Lawrence and Donald Soular; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband, H.Frederick Lawrence; three sisters; and one brother.
Eleanor R. Page
CLIFTON SPRINGS/SENECA FALLS - Eleanor R. page, 98, formerly of 3024 E. Bayard St. extension in Seneca Falls, passed away Thursday morning Sept. 15, 2005 at the Clifton Springs Nursing Home where she had been a patient for the past five years.
A memorial service was Sunday, Sept. 18, 2005 at the United Methodist Church of Seneca Falls with the Rev. Marilyn Foster officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Spring Brook Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Seneca Falls, 2 Chapel St., Seneca Falls 13148.
Mrs. Page was born in West Walworth, the daughter of S. Albert and Ida Bills Reed. She graduated from Fairport High School in 1926. She graduated from Cornell University in 1930 with a bachelor of science degree. She and her husband celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this past December. Mrs. Page retired in 1970 from the Seneca Falls School District where she was an elementary school teacher for several years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Seneca Falls, a member of Sa-Go-Ye-Wat-Ha Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution. She as a member of New York State Retired Teacher's Association and the Seneca Falls Retired Teachers Group, past president of Women's Society of Christian Service, past president of Seneca Falls PTA, past president of Women's Reading Club and a leader of the Girl Scouts. She was Secretary of Missionary Education of the Methodist Church. She had taught the study course for several years and was superintendent of Sunday school for 10 years.
She is survived by her husband, John E. Page of Clifton Springs; and a son, Stephen J. Page of Rochester.
She was predeceased by a twin sister, Elberta R. Johnson.
Donald E. "Flip" Walters
PHELPS - Donald E. "Flip" Walters, 75, of 216 Main St., went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2005 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Friends called Friday, Sept. 23 at the Cheney Funeral Home in Phelps. A Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, Sept. 24 at St. Francis Church in Phelps with the Rev. Mark Brewer officiating and the Rev. Anthony Calimeri as co-celebrant. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
It is suggested that memorial donations be made to St. Francis Church or the House of John, 14 Spring St., Clifton Springs 14432.
Don was born May 6, 1930, in Newcomerstown, Ohio, the son of the late Clarence and Lillie Mae VanSickle Walters. Don worked in heating and air conditioning sales for Sullivan Electric, Lang Heating, James Monaco and Robert Kortz Heating and Electric. Don was responsible for the set up of the rest areas on the New York State Thruway at the time of its inception.
Don was also a very active member of St. Francis Church in Phelps. He co-founded the St. Francis Food Cupboard with his wife, Virginia, 20 years ago. He was also a religious education teacher, a Eucharistic minister and a lay reader. Don was also involved for 20 years with the AFS. He was a member of the Phelps Planning Board. He was a Free & Accepted Mason and a member of the Phelps Lions Club.
Don was a member of the Phelps American Legion where he was a board member and the past president of the Clifton Springs Legion. He was proud to serve his country in the Navy during the Korean conflict.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Virginia Mauro Walters; children, Cindy Hall of Albion, Doug (Lisa) Walters of Lake Grove, Long Island, Michele Lohr of Shortsville, Cheryl Chester of Avon, Conn., and Marilyn (Joseph) DeRuyter of Hibiscus Harbor; grandchildren, Crystal, Clayton, Jesse, Jason, Emily, Evan, Jordan, Aaron and Addie; and several great-grandchildren.
