Livestock Contest Results from State Fair


     Members of the Western Wranglers 4-H Livestock Club of Ontario County recently participated in contests at the 2005 New York State Fair. There were two teams representing two different age groups at the contests. In the Livestock Skillathon Contest the members had to identify equipment, meat cuts and show basic knowledge in individual competitions as well as team questions. The Junior Skillathon team members were Olivia Lamphier of Middlesex, Emilyn Kennedy of Canandaigua, Julie Button of Stanley and Cristi VanCaeseele of Palmyra. This team placed third in team placings and in individual placings found Lamphier in 10th, Kennedy in 9th and Button in 1st for the state.
     These team members also participated in the Junior Livestock Judging Contest where the team placed 2nd in the state for judging beef, sheep and swine. Individual placings in this contest were Button in 9th individual, VanCaseele as 6th and placing 2nd in the state was Lamphier.
     The Senior Team consisted of members from Ontario, Wayne and Yates Counties. Ontario members participating were Amanda Button of Stanley, Sierra Lockwood of Canandaigua, from Wayne County was Martha Facer of Palmyra and Betsy Jensen of Yates County. In team standings for the Skillathon this team was 3rd with Jensen placing 10th individual and Button placing 7th. In the Livestock Judging Contest the team placed 3rd with Jensen placing 5th.
     The team members were coached by 4-H volunteers, Becky and Amy Rugenstein and were assisted by 4-H club leaders, Mindy Lockwood and Karen Rugenstein all of Canandaigua.
