WOMEN OUTDOORS FINGER LAKES REGION FIRST EVENT A SUCCESS
|
Women Outdoors, a non-profit organization dedicated to promote wilderness activities and competency in the out-of-doors, hosted its first event in the newly-formed Finger Lakes Region on Sunday, September 18. Fourteen women participated, learning about Women Outdoors, and enjoying the wildlife drive and hike at the Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge.
Women Outdoors is a network in which women can get in touch with other women who share their outdoor interests and values. The organization provides a place for women who, through the outdoors, build bridges between members of diverse outdoor skills, ages, lifestyles, and cultures.
After the Montezuma event, Sandy Zohari, regional contact for the Finger Lakes, commented, "I am very pleased with the success of our first event. We are hoping to draw women from Rochester, Syracuse, Ithaca, and all towns in between. Events will be happening all around the region, starting out with one event a month, and eventually getting up to an event every weekend as we grow."
Future events planned for the fall include a hike nad picnic at Beaver Lake in Baldwinsville on Sunday, October 16, and a hike a Powder Mills Park in Pittsford on Sunday, November 6. All women interested in the outdoors, regardless of skill level, age, or backgroundm, are encouraged to attend, free of charge.
