PHIL LOSSIFER

I was lookin' fer a topic when gas prices went outta sight. Knew it was comin', as greed got the better o' corporate brains. Amazin' how gas price rises quick, doesn't go down when oil price drops. They'll give all sortsa reasons, but greed an' corporate profits for oil companies are the prime reason. High leaders benefittin', also!
Travel is the "opiate" of the masses. Highways are full of cars, interstates can be jammed by a minor fender bender. Malls couldn't operate without mass travel. Cars don't sell, resultin' in layoffs down parts supply line, includin' outsourced companies. Ford and GM car sales're down big time, so's other! People don't care 'bout the cost o' gas long as they kin go from point A to Point B at seventy miles an hour, be the first at the stop light, burn tires at green. Travel I 95 twixt Richmond and Washington like Daytona Race where drivers speed passin' cars like accumulatin' points fer frequent flyer miles.
Cars ain't the only user of oil. How many lights are on durin' days, in parkin' lots, streets. We use power like it's water, don't economize. How much oil could be saved if proper energy management was utilized. Some rooms have electronic switches which turn off power if room is empty. How many school room lights are left on when empty. Midlakes parkin' lot lights up the night sky like the Northern lights! If no one is workin', who needs the light? Same fer malls!
Didjer ever hear how a battle was lost because a horse din't have shoe? Or jobs were lost because economy soured an' the product wasn't bein' made? This holds true fer our travel habits. If gas becomes too expensive, economy'll suffer because people ain't travelin', they ain't buyin', an' companies cain't make what isn't bein' bought. Primary rule of economics. Travel fuels our economy from top to bottom of economic ladder! Common people gittin' hurt bad! Ever' cent fuel rises takes money 'way from grocery an' mall stores, causin' inflation.
Our govmint an' corporate leaders' heads buried in the sand. They have vested interest in stock profits. They mouth problem, don't do anythin' 'bout it. Why should they? Don't rock their jukebox!
Will our legislators wake up? No, because when yer eatin' high on the hog, y'don't have empathy fer those feedin' off gristle an' starch. Not nuff sed on this 'n.
Sad note on Boss's editorial: Nothin's worse than small town honchos layin' hard times on others, imposin' viewpoints t' satisfy a personal gripe. Honcho's kin substantiate their positions, but when community fails t' work t'gether, ever'one suffers. Upstate New York is full of communities whose honcho's "knew" better. They placed roadblocks t' existin' industries, din't blame themselves when fat hit the fire. Been involved with a few, community always lost!!! No, not 'nuff sed. Phelps leaders must have a plan, or do they?
