A giant disappeared from television, victimized by corporate decisions and prob'ly some polytical shenanigans. He demeanor was comfortin' in the late evenin' hours, someone y' felt welcome in yer home. There was little bombast to his delivery, it was news and as such he delivered it, quietly an' without flourish. It's a detriment news anchors ratin's are obtained through shoutin', interruptin' or abusin' guests. Or inflammatory rhetoric designed to create dissention.
Past week we've been subjected to several Media discussions which really are old news. The Judith Miller scenario, right or wrong, showed wrong people git nailed. Novack, Woodard and other reporters are rewarded for their s'posed "service" to the country, s'portin' govmint policies, trashin' detractors, even their famblies!
We're rehashin' Bush's National Guard service. The television producer was fired for data others thought was contrived. An acquiescence t' govmint edicts forces editors t' choose twixt ratin's or gittin' nailed by FCC. Fact is Bush got special treatment getting' in, while he was there, and after. Who would refuse a request from a Vice President? Military people with his spotty record would be in Leavenworth. Real aim was t' nail Dan Rather. CBS was forced t' fire 'im. It's s'prisin' CBS's anti Viet tirades were ignored. An' t'day are considered unpatriotic. Sadly Bush an generals bask in glory of military, staffed mainly by young men more patriotic than they. Their efforts are unnoticed unless it's a bleed line. Does Media really know the amount of good deeds bein' done in Iraq? No, but leaders'll brag while their relatives are ensconced in safety an' prosperity. Media an' govmint ignore uncontrolled street deaths. The violence is actually terrorist attacks within our borders.
Pres. Bush's speeches are before controlled, sympathetic audiences, like military or fellow Republicans. Isn't that a method to control the press? His Veteran's Day speech statin' America must spread democracy in the world is reminiscent of past orators. Limbaugh's comments sound like press releases from the White House. Dissenters' voices are unheard. Hanratty shrilly derides liberal thoughts by Combs, who seems like a paper foil a'ginst a sword. O'Reilly's no spin zone revolves like an out of control carousel, whose mechanical bands sickly pound oom pah pah t' substantiate his views.
Does Media really care 'bout boonie people? They're maintained in their cocoons of prosperity, distant from commoners. Did anchors suffer durin' their hurricane assignments. Prob'ly not, as they flitted hither and yon, showin' depravity they never saw or were involved with.
The giant is gone. CNN late night news will continue, unaware of Anderson Little's or another news anchor's incompetence. Goodbye Aaron Brown, whose soft spoken, concerned manner was a welcome relief to viewers inundated with shrills from those with less talent an' louder voices. It's tragic moderate voices are subject t' govmint an' executive decrees, unmindful of their net effect. Gonna miss 'im, nuff sed.
