FLCC TO HOST HOLIDAY BASEBALL CAMP
     CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Nov. 17, 2005) - Finger Lakes Community College will host a baseball camp Dec. 27 - 29 in the FLCC gymnasium, 4355 Lakeshore Drive, Canandaigua.
     
     The camp will run each day from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. for ages 13 - 17 and from 1 - 4 p.m. for ages 8 - 12. The cost of the camp is $70 per person.
     
     The camp will cover the fundamentals of hitting, bunting, infield/outfield play, pitching, catching, and baserunning. Each camper will have his or her swing analyzed and the opportunity to work one-on-one with an instructor. Campers will be introduced to drills to improve technique and correct flaws.
     
     The camp instructors include former FLCC Head Baseball Coach Bob Lowden; current Head Coach Pat Greer; Assistant Coaches Nick Amatulli, Tony Perry, and J.B. Conti; and Pitching Coach Bob Shaffer.

FLCC OFFICE OF COLLEGE RELATIONS WINS AWARDS |
     CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Nov. 15, 2005) - The Finger Lakes Community College Office of College Relations received two awards in the recent National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) District 1 Medallion Award Contest.
     
     A photograph taken by Deron Berkhof, College Relations photographer/creative services technician, earned the College a Bronze Medallion of Achievement in the color photograph category. The College received a Silver Medallion of Achievement in the video public service announcement/advertisement category for the FLCC television advertisement entitled "The Right Place," produced cooperatively by the Office of College Relations and Buell Advertising.
     
     NCMPR is an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges. District 1 includes Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and the United Kingdom.

FLCC HOSTS SCIENTIFIC PAPER SESSION |
     CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Nov. 17, 2005) - Finger Lakes Community College recently hosted the 32nd Rochester Academy of Science Fall Paper Session at the College's Canandaigua campus. This annual event features presentations by Academy members, area college students and faculty, and other members of the scientific community on a wide variety of scientific disciplines. Several current and former FLCC students and faculty members presented papers at this year's session.
     
     Shelley Walker, adjunct instructor of biology, presented "Avian Flu: Review of Current Research."
     
     Nola Hause '05, Jessica Halliley '05, and James Hewlett, associate professor of biology, presented "Measuring Coral Reef Stress Around the Volcanic Caribbean Island of Montserrat."
     
     Student Jessica Orkin, of Ithaca, and John VanNiel, chairperson of the Department of Environmental Conservation and Horticulture, presented "Mountain Lions in New York? A Survey of the Evidence."
     
     Student Terry Gronwall, of Honeoye, and Dr. Bruce Gilman, professor of environmental conservation and horticulture, presented "Frequency of Benthic Anoxia and Its Role in Phosphorus Dynamics of Honeoye Lake."
     
     Gilman and John Foust, conservation technician, presented "Macro-Invertebrate Survey of Honeoye Lake Sediment."

FLCC STUDENT AWARDED NEW YORK STATE OUTDOOR WRITERS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP |
     CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Nov. 17, 2005) - Finger Lakes Community College student, Ruth Dainty was awarded a $500 scholarship from the New York State Outdoor Writers Association (NYSOWA) on Oct. 29, 2005. She accepted the scholarship in Auburn, NY at a conference held by the NYSOWA. Dainty, of Canandaigua, was selected as the recipient of this award based on an essay expressing support of ethical hunting practices in order to conserve wildlife resources. Dainty's record as an outstanding student was also considered in awarding her the scholarship.
     
     Dainty, a natural resources conservation student, was recently inducted into the international honor society for 2-year colleges, Phi Theta Kappa. Dainty plans to pursue a bachelor's degree in an environmental technology field.

FLCC ANNOUNCES JAN PLAN REGISTRATION |
     CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Nov. 17, 2005) - Registration for the three-week Finger Lakes Community College Jan Plan session is now underway, continuing through December 27.
     
     The session meets January 2 through January 20, allowing students to complete college credit courses in approximately three weeks. A complete listing of Jan Plan course offerings can now be viewed by visiting "WebAdvisor" at www.flcc.edu.
     
     To enroll in a Jan Plan course, students may use the mail-in registration form that is included in the FLCC Spring 2006 Course Listing Publication. The form can also be downloaded from the FLCC Web site, www.flcc.edu. Students may also register in person by visiting the Registrar's Office Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. (Please note: the College is closed Nov. 23-27, Dec. 23-26, and Dec. 30-31 for the holidays.)
