December 17, 2005, 8:00 pm
Canandaigua Academy
Rochester, NY: The Finger Lakes Concert Band presents a concert entitled "Holiday Gifts" on Saturday, December 17, 2005 at 8:00 pm at the Canandaigua Academy, 435 East Street in Canandaigua. The concert, directed by Charles Van Buren, will feature some musical surprises as well as selections for the holiday season including: Christmas Festival by John Cacavas, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, arr. James Swearingen, Prelude and Gloria, arr. Frank Erickson, Sleigh Ride, Leroy Anderson, and many more! General admission tickets are $5.00 at the door.
The Finger Lakes Concert Band, formerly under the auspices of Finger Lakes Community College, is comprised of adult instrumentalists from the Greater Finger Lakes community. It was reorganized this past summer to be a member of the Hochstein At Canandaigua partnership program. This reorganization has brought changes to the band members, who now must be financially self-supporting, and for patrons who have previously enjoyed free concerts. Concertgoers will be asked to pay $5.00 which will help defray operating costs and the purchase of music.
Director Charles Van Buren holds degrees in music education from the University of Wisconsin and the Eastman School of Music. In June 2004 he retired from public school teaching after thirty-three years of teaching concert bands and jazz ensembles at all levels. Mr. Van Buren is in his 17th year as music director of the Perinton Concert Band.

FLCC SEEKS COMMUNITY INPUT ON EDUCATIONAL NEEDS |
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Nov. 22, 2005) - Finger Lakes Community College is seeking community input. The College recently developed an online survey to gather information, via the Internet, about community educational needs and preferences. Current students, prospective students, and other individuals in the community are invited to complete the survey. The College is particularly interested in hearing from part-time students, older students, and working parents. To complete this survey, visit the College Web site at www.flcc.edu/feedback. Surveys completed by Dec. 30, 2005, will be entered into a drawing to win free tuition for up to three credits at the College.
The survey of educational needs and interests contains questions regarding a variety of topics, including course and program options, class scheduling and locations, online courses, and educational goals and objectives.
