PHIL LOSSIFER

General Motor's meltdown was predictable, an' many ain't gonna like this, particularly union members.
Unions done many good things over the years but often unions honchos' stupidity overrode common sense. Locally was American Can in Geneva, or it usta be. Ever' time an executive or boss coughed, union walked out. The strike was called by honchos whose union salary warn't stopped, common man's stopped. Many work stoppages were part of somebody's ego, union or management. Poor man suffered.
American auto industry has shown this over the decades. Work stoppages over wage demands were eventually met, but added to cost of automobiles. Health care gurus figured they'd hit the pot at the end of the rainbow, costs skyrocketed t' where companies cain't afford benefits, an' people cain't afford t' pay it outta pocket.
IGM executives an' corporate biggies' inflated egos voted themselves big bonuses removin' money from operation costs. They dictated buyer's desires, not reverse. Imports gained ten percent of the market, GM poohed it off. Gave us bigger cars, usin' more gas, etc. When smaller cars came on the market, people bought 'em! Imports gradually cleaned up their act from cheap t' better until t'day imports produce cars people want! Durin' the past fifty years many corporations went down the tubes, with Ford, an' GM it's taken more time. But, they'll rust belt Detroit by the time the dust settles. Corporate people'll be in Tahiti sippin' grapefruit cocktails wonderin' how common folk are doin'. In short, common man was sold down the river by union an' corporate executives. Gave common man a pittance whilst featherin' their pockets. An' in many cases, cooperatin' with govmint leaders! As jobs disappear an' cheaper goods flood the country it's amazin' where the money is gonna come from t' s'port Christmas or day t' day livin', even!
Larry King had Bob Woodward on regardin' CIA outin' gate. Din't take calls, listened close on repeat. Funny how journalists stick t'gether, King soft pedaled questions so's not t' embarrass 'im. Conclusion is this: CIA agent was outed, endangerin' a life. That don't matter, what does is he'll get a book outta this. This is the second time he's tried t' bring down a leader, usin' "unnamed sources." His interview showed, unfortunately, that Libby will walk. Mebbe he's the selected fall guy, but if convicted, Bush'll pardon 'im. Same holds fer lotta other highly placed people in administration. Media, which touts itself as protector of democracy, isn't doin' it! It's reduced itself t' grindin' axes of conservatism or liberalism, ignorin' reader's an' nation's concerns. In essence, Media has become an instrument of, not conscience of, govmint!
Mayn't like what's above, but 'nuff sed don't cover these stories. Greed at all levels has caused both problems. Media biggies want t' sell books, papers. Industry an union executive feather their nest while factories are closin', jobs bein' shipped overseas. No, not 'nuff sed at all.
