NOMINATIONS BEING TAKEN FOR RODNEY LIGHTFOOTE AGRICULTURAL AWARD


     Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2006 Rodney Lightfoote Agricultural Viability and Innovation Award for Ontario County. This award is presented to an individual, organization, or business that has provided outstanding leadership in championing ideas and efforts to enhance agriculture in Ontario County. Established by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County in collaboration with the Agriculture Enhancement Board and Ontario County Farm Bureau, the annual award serves as a perpetual memorial in honor of the late Rodney Lightfoote.
     "Rodney Lightfoote was a champion for agriculture, through his work at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County, and as a founder of Ontario County Farm Bureau. This award honors his contributions by recognizing those who continue to provide leadership and innovation to agriculture in Ontario County. Agriculture remains our #1 industry and is important to our quality of life in Ontario County," according to Patricia Pavelsky, Executive Director of Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ontario County.
     Nominations are being accepted for a person, organization or business that has made an overall contribution to agriculture in Ontario County in one or all of the following categories:
*      Enhancing agricultural economic development
*      Increasing awareness of the economic and social importance of agriculture
*      Examining and adjusting local agricultural policies and actions
*      Acknowledging and enhancing environmental stewardship of agricultural activities and businesses
