It's difficult not rehashin' previous columns, don't like t' chew the same chaw week after week. Which is what Media does, they harp an' re-harp until one can almost repeat what the talkin' heads 're gonna say.
October 2005's Smithsonian has an article, "Andrew Jackson and The Triumph of Democracy." First off, teachers, this should be required readin' fer high schoolers, test on Monday type thing. It shows how there were two factions, one led by John Quincy Adams (no relation t' Ralph?) who figgered common man warn't able t' figure things out fer themselves, much like t'day's Congressional leaders. He worked t' keep power out of the hands of "unlettered" an' "incompetents". He thought power should best lie with those havin' "education" an' "experience."
Spring ahead t' our political climate t'day. Quite frankly, if one looks close, Adams' philosophy is plain t' see this is where we are t'day. That is, elitist people dictate, promulgate an' have taken Jackson's ideas away from us commoners. They've done this by makin' laws discouragin' or downright impossible fer common people t' become involved with the political process. For without a doubt, t'day we have elitist people, who have financial resources, runnin' this country! This don't have no Liberal or Conservative labels, both sides figger backwoods common people don't have the sense God gave green apples, so they must be properly informed of their station of life. Elitist people feelin' their station in life enables them t' call the shots.
This ain't meant t' be a Lenz thing, but look close, if y' will at two recent bills that went through Congress. They were Home Security an' Transportation bills. They were able t' provide money in bills favorin' their own areas, rest of the country don't matter. Katrina an' Rita rebuildin' contracts have inside positions an' cost plus non bid contracts. Insurance people have stated if water damage wasn't covered, wind driven flood waters warn't payable since both problems had common source.
Here comes t' kicker on elitist government: Bureaucrats have developed whose responsibility over certain areas enable them to deny common people access t' redress. This is done two ways, legally an' by outright ignorin' the problem. Best evidence of this is our welfare industry, which was formulated t' help, but elitists have developed a society of people unwillin', or unable t' fend fer themselves. Bureaucrats involved hold life an' death decisions over poor, disabled or otherwise indigent. When common people object, as they often do, bureaucrats ignore their concerns, citin' laws passed by the elitist legislators.
The Adams's of politics abetted by Media have succeeded in creatin' the elitist aspect of govmint. Sorry, Pres. Jackson, what y' wanted t' prevent, money an' apathy have allowed. Never 'nuff sed on this'n.
If y' think I'm over m' head on this'n, y' might be right. Read the article an' make up yer own mind. Common people don't count!
