NEW BUSINESS IN CANANDAIGUA

Assemblyman Brian Kolb (R,C-Canandaigua) was recently in Canandaigua at the opening of the Blue Dahlia Coffee Shop. Kolb, who has been working hard to promote job growth and new businesses in the Finger Lakes and Central New York region was proud to join Emillia Stevens, a co-founder of the coffee shop, for its grand opening.

KOLB CALLS ON ASSEMBLY MAJORITY FOR SPECIAL SESSION
Local Assemblyman Asks Silver, Magnarelli to Pass Illegal Gun Trafficking Legislation

Two New York City police officers within the past two weeks have been shot and killed by perpetrators using illegally purchased guns. Assemblyman Brian Kolb (R,C-Canandaigua) is calling for the immediate passage of existing legislation to protect law enforcement officials and all New Yorkers.

"I mourn the loss of these brave heroes, and my thoughts are with their families," Kolb said on Tuesday. "I hope this is the motivation that some in New York need to get serious and tough on controlling illegal guns here."

Kolb has called on the Assembly, Speaker Sheldon Silver and, more specifically, Assemblyman Bill Magnarelli (D-120th Assembly District), Assemblywoman Joan Christensen (D-119th Assembly District) and Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton (D-125th Assembly District) to convene a special Assembly session to pass legislation that would stiffen penalties for illegal gun trafficking. In a letter earlier this week, Kolb called on the Assembly members to apply pressure on Speaker Silver to call for a special session on Monday, Dec. 19 to vote on a bill, which has been introduced in the state Senate (S.4052) but has not been addressed in the Assembly.

"It's never easy when we lose someone we love, and in these instances, it's members of the law enforcement community who served on behalf of all New Yorkers. It's twice as hard when those deaths may have been prevented. It's time, right now, for the Legislature to come to Albany and pass this important legislation," Kolb insisted.

The legislation introduced by state Sen. Martin Golden would stiffen penalties for those who illegally purchase or sell firearms in New York state.

TOYS FOR TOTS DRIVE A SUCCESS FOR CHILDREN

From Thursday's Toys For Tots pickup: Master Sgt. Joe Kelly, Canandaigua; VA Director Craig Howard; Kolb; and Staff Sgt. Brad Gippe.

This year's Toys for Tots campaign has helped collect millions of toys for needy children throughout the country. "Each year, Toys for Tots continues to provide a message of joy and giving to millions of needy children across the country and here in New York," stated Assemblyman Brian Kolb (R,C-Canandaigua).

The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve organizes the annual drive, which accepts the donation of new, unwrapped toys and distributes them as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community where the campaign is conducted. "As always, this was a shining success," added Kolb.

The program, initiated in 1947 by Reserve Maj. Bill Hendricks, is the nation's top Christmas donation program. In its near 60-year run, more than 300 million toys have been given to needy children.

"I would like to thank the personnel and administrators at our drop-off sites for toys," said Kolb, "including Arby's, McMillan Realty, the Canandaigua Veterans Affairs Hospital, and the Seneca and Canandaigua Counties Chambers of Commerce. They all deserve a hand for the work they have done for our children," said Kolb.

"There are many needy children who, without this program, wouldn't receive any gifts for Christmas. Toys for Tots always manages to help remedy that. With the help of the residents who donate, it is one of the most beneficial programs for the Finger Lakes and Central New York regions."

Kolb said he hopes "the success of this year's program will show everyone just how far a little effort and generosity can go. We always need volunteers and donated gifts, so why not start thinking right now about what you can do next year?"
