PHIL LOSSIFER

As one ages holidays lose their importance as families spread out, becomin' involved with their own circle. Distance is an impediment, fortunately internet and phones help keep families in contact. Much negativism this year, can't stop thinkin' how lucky we are t' be livin' in America. That's a gift unto itself. It's shameful our country has become so fragmented we have political correctness rearing its head. Christmas is for kids, and the celebration of an activist's life that changed the world. Isn't His message better than some more violent religions? A special wish to troops servin' in combat areas, prayin' fer their safety an' hostility's end. Been through it a coupla times, know the feelin'.
One thing stands out, year after year. It's people helpin' people, like Marines' Toys for Tots, Salvation Army bell ringers. There are scrooges demeanin' these efforts. They continue anyway, each year, takin' care of less fortunate children.
There's a sorrowful note this year about Katrina's effect upon the Southern Coast. There's many families homeless, jobless and hopeless. Lost homes which should never be rebuilt because of its flood danger. But, how does one relocate into strange areas, durin' holiday times, away from normal surroundin's? Years of recovery will take care of things, eventually. There has to be some way o' helpin' the poor survivors, but charitable means don't cover ever'thin'. The bright spot was first responder's response, where they came from. Read National Geographic an' Popular Mechanic's articles on responder's efforts. Din't wait fer govmint, put their equipment an' finances to helpin' people right away.
Want t' wish ever'one a Merry Christmas and good holidays. Boss seems in good shape, an' Betty's his best asset. Many don't realize the effect of the Trader on outside areas. Tell yer what, got some extry bucks, buy a subscription fer former residents of the area. They'd appreciate it. 'Nuff sed, have a holy, safe, an' wonderful Christmas!
