DeSales Students giving to the community for Thanksgiving and Christmas!
|
Thanksgiving Baskets
DeSales Recruitment Club students; Haley Phillips, Bob Castor, Andrew Armitage, Emily Schillaci, Colleen Babiarz, and Gavin Karski were busy at work helping the Roman Catholic Community distribute Thanksgiving Baskets to those in need. DeSales started by collecting food from each Homeroom and then helped load the Baskets into vehicles for the families that came to pick the Baskets up. We would like to thank Marie Milligan for coordinating the event again this year, her hard work and dedication to this program does not go unnoticed.
Christmas at DeSales
Following a fifteen-year tradition of celebrating the birth of Christ and sharing the Christmas spirit with the Geneva community, each grade at DeSales High School in Geneva adopted a family for the school's Advent Project.
Early in December each grade was given information on a local family, including a "wish list" as well as sizes and ages of the family members. Each teacher and staff member was assigned to one of the grades. Students, teachers and staff began to collect and purchase items for their adopted family. The student's from each class went shopping at various businesses in the Geneva area for the items. Every homeroom wrapped and labeled the gifts. In addition, the DeSales Student Council raised additional funds to purchase groceries for each family.
Just before Christmas break each grade selected a few classmates to help deliver the food and gifts. A teacher or staff member accompanied each group of students. This year, as in the past, the project was directed by Elaine Morgan, Guidance Secretary.
