FLCC BOARD OF TRUSTEES APPROVES NEW ONLINE ELECTRONIC COMMERCE DEGREE PROGRAM
CANANDAIGUA, N.Y. (Dec. 13, 2005) - A new online electronic commerce degree program at Finger Lakes Community College recently received approval from the FLCC Board of Trustees. The program proposal will also go to the State University of New York (SUNY) and the New York State Education Department (SED) for final approval. This will be the first degree program offered by FLCC that is completely online. FLCC will offer the e-commerce degree program through the award-winning SUNY Learning Network (SLN).
"This new degree program complements our existing computer programs and offers a special focus for students interested in this emerging business paradigm," said Dr. Daniel T. Hayes, president of FLCC. "We are pleased to offer this e-commerce degree online, which enables students to complete the degree program without coming to campus, making it ideal for distance learners and professionals in the field."
Interest in the electronic commerce degree program has been generated by an increasing trend in our society of conducting business online. "Brick and mortar" business practices are being replaced by "click and order" business practices. The electronic commerce degree will give students a background in doing business via the Internet.
Graduates of the electronic commerce program can expect to find careers in the fields of Internet marketing, Web advertising, Web application development, e-commerce sales, e-commerce consulting, and e-commerce Web administration.
Program courses will include the following: Introduction to Programming and Computing, Core Excel, MS Access and Database Processing, Visual Basic, Multimedia Development, Web Site Development and Programming, and Principles of Information Security. Students will also be required to complete an internship in either the field of business or the field of computing science with a course in business.
Currently, FLCC offers associate in science degrees in computer science and in information systems and an associate in applied science degree in information technology. In addition, the College offers certificates in applied computer applications and in information security.
