BSA Troop 59 Gives a Heartfelt Thanks to the Community
By Colleen Parmele

The journey began in June 2005 when the Clifton Springs Boy Scout Troop 59 leaders decided to organize another trip out West with the scouts. In July 2005 the PR and Fundraising Team was formed with a charge to raise $20,000 towards this effort. There were a total of 20 fundraisers between August 13, 2005 and June 10, 2006 and although we fell a few thousand dollars short of our goal, the amount raised was very significant and made the trip affordable for the scout families.

This was a ten-day camping and hiking trip with the scouts departing at 4:30am on Friday, July 14th and returning home on Sunday, July 23rd. The sites visited included Big Springs, Yellowstone National Park, Buffalo Bill State Park and museum, Plains Indian Museum, Cody Firearms Museum, Draper Museum of Natural History, the Grand Tetons, Old Faithful, Geyser Basin Trails and museum, National Park Range Museum, Mammoth Hot Springs and museum, hiked Avalanche Peak, attended Cody Night Rodeo, Alpine Hike to Marion Lake, attended evening ranger programs, and white water rafting at Jackson Hole. As you can see, for a boy who may never have traveled west of Buffalo, NY - a trip of this magnitude could be a significant enhancement to their understanding of this country's history and grandeur. The last trip out West was approximately five years ago; the scouts enjoyed it very much said it was one of the high points of their scouting experience. Please check out the troop's website, http://home.rochester.rr.com/bsatroop59/ , for pictures and highlights throughout the year.

This was a tremendous opportunity for the troop and it wouldn't have been possible without the support of our community. Words can't adequately express our thanks and gratitude to all who made this effort a reality. The list is very long and we would like to take a moment to thank the following organizations, businesses and individuals: Rev. Lynn and Lorrie Spence, Bob and Betty Bowdren (The Community Trader), Bill and Connie Peterson, Bill Bounds (Dippers II), Dick Egan (Big M), Bill Lally, Joyce and Lou Lombardi, Vicki Wilkes and the Spa residents, Paul McIntyre, Dawn Norton, Wayne Conklin, Drew Morris, Phelps Service Center, Newark Wegmans, Newark McDonalds, Mark DeCook, Phelps American Legion, Village Green Florist, The Rose Petal, Coffee Creek, Everson's Dairy, Family First Federal Credit Union, Full Belly Deli, Glenn Fisher (Oaks Garage), Laci Keville (Old Mill Liquor), The Phelps Hotel, Windy Hill Nursery, Sue Raimondi and Cindy DeWilde (HMC Clifton Springs), Lawrence and Virginia Rockwell, Bill and Barbara Young (Wil-O-Crest Farms), Rochester Planetarium, Athletic Outlet, Rochester Red Wings Ball Club, Finger Lakes Federal Credit Union, Casa Larga Vineyards, Sean Lattimore (The Springside Inn-Auburn), WCTA, Bass Pro Shop, Notable Corporation, John Johnston (New York Bus Sales), Gary Husk (YMCA), Otis Davis (Davis Auction House), The Countryside Diner, Diane Williams (Ontario Telephone), and the staff at The Merchandiser.

I would also like to thank the scouts, their parents, and the troop leadership for all their support. A special note of thanks goes to the people who gave of themselves selflessly to make this trip happen:
     The PR and Fundraising Team:
Carol Spafford, Lynn Pelletreau, Colleen Combs, Angel Romeiser, Mark and Kelly Reynolds, Jim Conners, Patrice Shultes, and Joe and Donna Mineo
     The Trip Planning Team:
Bob Boerjan, Mark Reynolds, Will Clark, Roger Spafford, Mark Shultes, Paul Welker, Ron Steiner, Bill Peterson, Jim Conners, and Lynn Pelletreau.
What an amazing group of individuals! Your unwavering support, sacrifices, and tireless efforts mean the world to Troop 59.

Again, on behalf of the scouts and their parents, troop leadership, and committee volunteers, thank you all so very much for your generosity in making this effort a reality for the youth involved. This was an opportunity of a lifetime for our scouts which wouldn't have been possible without the support of our community.
