Relatives Raising Children: A Guide to Finding Help and Hope, by Marianne Takas can be borrowed at Cornell Cooperative Extension, 480 North Main Street, Canandaigua. It can also be purchased from the Brookdale Foundation at www.brookdalefoundation.org or call 212-308-7355. Raising a child isn't easy. The care of a child from your extended family can pose special challenges. Today, 6 million relatives are raising children in the United States and coping with the many issues that come with caregiving. Meeting the child's needs, getting along with the child's parents, working with the child's school, catching up on medical care that may have been neglected and finding their way through a complex legal system can be overwhelming. This book can help relatives raising children cope with these issues and more.
Relatives Raising Children: A Guide to Finding Help and Hope, is based upon what long-term caregivers (and the family service professionals who work with them) have learned about raising relative children. It is designed to provide useful information, strategies and ideas to help link relative caregivers to others who can help.
Author Marianne Takas has worked in the child welfare field for over 25 years as a lawyer, author, parent, foster parent and social service provider. She currently serves as the Assistant Director of Kid's Connection for Cedar Ridge Community Church in the Washington, D.C. area.
