January Teacher of the Month:
Ms. Cathy Morlock
|
WROC TV January Teacher of the Month has students all over the building. She's School Counselor Cathy Morlock of Midlakes Middle School in Clifton Springs.
Reading Teacher Allyson Lane nominated Cathy Morlock. Principal Kathy DeMay helped make the surprise possible. When they walked into her classroom and said "surprise", Ms. Morlock said "Holy smokes I'm very surprised, Oh my gosh!"
Just about everyone at Midlakes Middle School in Clifton Springs knows School Counselor Cathy Morlock because she's everywhere. And whether its the library, in the hallway between classes or in her office, she's always working to bring out the best in people.
Reading Teacher Allyson Lane says "In Cathy's presence you just feel like you can do and achieve any off your goals. And she is definitely a role model for that with some of the volunteer work she does."
Cathy helps with the Youth-to-Youth and Peer Leadership groups. She's active in Character Education at school and organized an after school program for at-risk students. She is a coach for the modified girl's swim team and founder of the Family Support Center serving families in the Phelps, Clifton Springs School District.
"School hours are nothing to her" says Principal Kathy DeMay. "She's here early and stays late and weekends and has kids involved and takes them places. You know we really, we love her. She has a spirit that just permeates the building"
Ms. Morlock is humble and was not comfortable with the attention, but grateful. "I don't know, I guess I didn't realize that's exactly what I did, but I'm glad to know that's what I do and I do make a small impact on people everyday."
